996 alarm issue... Any ideas?

My alarm/horn gently double beeps when I open my drivers door to get out of the car. The car won't lock using the key fob until I have locked the car and opened it again using the key.
It opens no problems with the key fob. It's doing this every time I open the door whether the key is in the ignition or not.

Thoughts on a postcard please?

I've just had this exact problem, it was the drivers door lock. It could be a door/glovebox or cubby hole not closed properly?

Double-beep is a system fault, single-beep is an open compartment.

It is most likely a microswitch inside the door lock mechanism, as Angelus says. It is very common. Trouble is, you can't buy the microswitches separately, so you have to replace the whole lock (c.£100).

You need a new membrane too, to stop moisture getting in after you've split it.

Do you have a Durametric that you can plug in to find out what door it is?
