Late 987 S (Gen II) v 981 S
Discussion
Anyone done a back-to-back test of these two with PASM as part of the spec.
Aside from the improved looks (to be fair they actually don't look that different at first glance), is there a noticeable difference in how they handle and ride?

I'm not sure about handling, but ride, yes. The 981 is a definite move forwards in terms of ride. I didn't push the 981 hard enough to compare handling per se (and my comparison is a Gen.1 987 with PASM, not a Gen.2, though they're pretty similar). The 981 was on 20s, the 987 on 19s btw.
I was hugely impressed with the 981's ride - it was that that stood out the most immediately. There may be a slight loss in 'feel' through the wheel, but if you're using the car for anything other than just b-road blasting or track-work, the improved ride is worth it IMHO - very impressive car, the 981, even in Jewish Racing Gold (Lime Gold).
I've got a manual 987.2S and have had a test drive a 981S. I agree with all the sentiments on ride quality, road noise and interior quality. The big negative I found was that thh engine/drivetrain of the 981 left me entirely cold(PDK no PSE). More muted than a 987, PDK incredibly efficient, but uninvolving, I just found it a bit too clinical and emotionless. Clearly totally subjective though.

Does anyone know how the 981 compares to the 987 for legroom inside?
I got rid of my Gen 1 Cayman S 987 as I found it just too small legroom wise, and too noisy on the m-way.
The new one looks very tempting if both these issues have been resolved.
Wheelbase is up 60mm so, yes, there should be more interior space. Depends if you are a total mutant freak of course. As for noise, the 981 is apparently much quieter, the Cayman will be even quieter still than the Boxster.I got rid of my Gen 1 Cayman S 987 as I found it just too small legroom wise, and too noisy on the m-way.

Can you just explain that last bit reference the colour?Actus Reus said:

JRG - Not heard that term in years! Amusing...
this might be useful, albeit not the exact same comparison:

Jewish Racing Gold - originally, I believe, a nickname for that gold colour lots of 80's Mercs came in. I think it fits, a little bit, with Lime Gold (which was the colour of the car OPC Cambridge let me borrow last year).Urban Dictionary explains it well:
Jewish racing gold is the description of certain shades of the colour gold. It is most often applied to cars painted in a gold colour, though can also be applied to describe other items of this colour.
It is derived from the stereotype of Jewish women of a certain age having a prediliction to gold-coloured clothing and accessories, and is therefore mildly perjorative.
Shabbat shalom, her car is jewish racing gold!
