So simple one, what would you look/go for?

SPoke to a local specialist who thinks the 3.4 is more reliable than the 3.6?

Not in my experience, but everyone seems to have different views. Haven't looked at this market for a while, can you really get a 3.6 for £13k?

Yes just about. I read the later cars were more reliable, engine wise.

Buy the best one you can for 10k and keep your 3k just in case.

If it doesn't blow in your ownership, happy days.

You can but compromises need to be made. Miles and or cat d.

Or a 968cs, 911sc, or 964.

For 13k you don't actually have a choice. You're buying a 10/11k 996 C2, the only one you can afford is a C2, and then you have 2k for servicing and tyres and rads and suspension arms... smile

(don't buy a marmite colour)

Thing is, it doesn't work quite like that. 14k doesn't necessarily get you a better car than 13k!

What sort of thing should I look for apart from history and condition? Heard sat nav is a good option to get

Not for an early 996. Why do you need slow out of date satnav when a phone or garmin for £100 does nav better?

Buy on history. Buy on whether the car drives sounds and feels right.

Both look like a good shout. At least you are getting some sort of peace of mind with these options.

Edit: Pretty sure Henry mentioned he does an engine and gearbox warranty for £400 p.a. Absolute no brainer!! Getting tempted myself!!
