Gen1 997 Turbo Cab or 997 GTS Cab???????????????

Not sure what to get? A Gen1 Turbo Cab, or a GTS Cab? Do you think the GTS may hold its value more so than the Turbo? Is the later style nav and look of the GTS a plus over the Turbo? As it's four wheel drive will the Turbo feel more planted than the GTS? Is anyone else in the same dilemma?

As a Cab, I would go for GTS with PSE just for the noise of it

Have you already considered a 981 Boxster S as not sure rear seats in a 997 Cab are really that usable (but best to ask someone who has one I guess) ??

Not so sure about the Boxter? I do think the new look Boxter if definitely the best looking Porsche, no disrespect, but it's a really my first Porsche entry level car, without sounding like an obnoxious tt, i've owned over twenty 911's and it just feels wrong for me to have a Boxter. They should have called it something else??? I'd defo be a buyer (god i'm so shallow) I spotted a black one today on the forecourt of my OPC, did look cool.

Maybe I need to drive the GTS & Turbo back to back.

I've been deciding for the past couple of months but with the coupe versions. GTS steers a little better and sounds great but the Turbo is utterly, utterly brilliant. I pick mine up on Saturday. Can't wait

Well the 'Box is certainly a better steer than either of those 911's, if you don't need the seats....

Gen2 turbo moves the game on at double the cost, i do love mine and it just looks sensational but if i did not have kids to transport I would be in a 2.7L car.

They did, they called it a Boxster. :-)

Maybe the 4 GTS would be worth a spin too. All the sound of the GTS, plus 4WD (sometimes).

Disagree that the Box is a better steer than any 997. It might be easier to drive but that doesn't make it more interesting, challenging or rewarding. last 2 cars have been 997.1 turbo coupe, 997.1 turbo cab and just chosen 997 GTS over new 981 cayman/boxter GTS. Found the boxter and cayman a bit one dimentional compared with the Carrera.

No way on earth the electric Boxster steering is anywhere near as good as the GTS hydraulic setup, especially in 2 w d format. My Cayman S loaner is overall a decent car, but is hugely let down by its uncommunicative electric steering. Oh to be back behind the wheel of my 2wd GTS unfortunately recently sold....the most complete of all 911s IMO.......a future classic for sure which will hold its value far better than any 'turbine'.....its in some ways the most complete 911 and far more involving and rewarding than the rather detached T...

Correct.

Had a 997.1 Turbo, now a 2WD GTS coupe.
Have borrowed a 981 Boxster S for a decent period.

GTS best steering, most 911 experience.
Turbo great grip and thrust.
Boxster dead (In comparison) steering, and manual gearing is all wrong.

One problem with test driving a turbo is it is difficult not to be blown away by the performance of the thing which is astonishing and so accessible. They are incredible cars having owned two of 997 flavour, coupe and cab. The problem for me came after the novelty wears off and you decide to preserve your driving licence, at which point driving at sane speeds the turbo becomes a little one dimensional where as NA 997s and particularly the GTS still feel special at 6/10ths and are not traveling at warp speed. At 6/10ths the turbo is at warp speeds but not as involving, which is not a good mix for your "special" car. If you were lucky enough to be able to have a supercar to cover a decent everyday commute in all weathers, the turbo is hard to beat however.
