Well after 2 great years in the R8 V10, ive now come over to the Porsche family and bought my first porsche.

Went for a Dec'12 registered Turbo S Cabriolet white with black leather inside, has 25 miles on clock and cant wait to pick up 1 week from today bounce

Will post pics when I get it home next week smile

Welcome!
So what was the main reason for the change?(just to experience something new, need for rear seats, epic low MPG for V10 smile ....)

I get bored easily wink

Keep my cars for a few years normally as like to try new marques but suspect if this experience goes well (no reason why it wouldn’t given the pedigree of Porsche) i might be around to stay for a few years longer smile

Congrats, awesome choice. Be careful though as its too easy to get into licence losing speeds in this beast. Had mine for just over 2 years now and loving it, thought of selling to get into a 458 but for a 70k+ difference just not worth it in my view. The turbo s is really the best everyday supercar, use mine everywhere from going to the shops to doing some laps of the ring, just awesome.

Thanks, im looking fwd to the porsche experience smile I also looked into the McLaren , visited their showroom etc but as much as i would love one, i couldn't justify the cost for a car i mainly use 3 days a week. The Porsche gives me a little more space, drop top for the nice weather (when we get some!), speed for when i need it and on track...im hoping its the right choice smile

Interesting thread this.

I looked at a V8 R8 & found it a little disappointing tbh.
Ended up in a 997 turbo.

How would you compare the two from the V10?

You are obviously no stranger to something with a bit of poke, but if you want to explore the pendulum of that rear engine in the Porker, get yourself down to the Porsche driving school at Silverstone!

Great day out!

i guess i can't compare as of yet with only a 45min test drive in Turbo S, clearly different cars and engines but I've done VMAX a few times and track days and it handles like a dream and the V10 when opened up is to behold.

Porsche are getting me down to Silverstone , so will look fwd to that.

I believe turbo has softer suspension setup compared to R8. (of course if you have R8 with magnetic shocks it is adjustable)

Yep had everything on the R8 wink but anyway....enough about that car.

Clearly i will be enlightened by Porsche on the handover but whats the run in procedure for a Turbo S, i assume 500 ish miles on the tyres and i heard 2000 on the clock building up the revs as miles come down? ive had to run in my previous cars...so as much as its painful, i believe the cars pays you back accordingly.

The owner manual stipulates 3000kms or 1,865 miles. It's the common sense stuff that you probably do already - favour longer journeys, don't thrash the engine from cold. There is a section of running in tips in the user manual which I recall advises against participation in motor sport events.

Enjoy, bet you're counting down the sleeps till pickup? smile

The approved run in proceedure is to drive the car to SPA, perform a weekends worth of track work and then drive back via fort william.

Drove the r8 v10 spider a few times, nice enough car but the gearbox i thought was pretty rubbish. PDK much nicer, and once you got a few miles on the turbo s, will make the v10 feel slow. As for running in, just warm it up properly and be sensible and use all of the rev range to properly bed in.

Congrats! I went in a Turbo S coupe last year at Dunsfold and found the speed/ acceleration is absolutely intoxicating!
We were the last car out on track of our group, and the first one back - loved it - having the roof down would only make it better! biggrin

Have fun and post those pictures when you collect it!
