My warranty runs out on 7 March on my 06 C2S. Car has done 42k miles now and I will soon have had the vehicle 2 years. The renewal is £ 1269.00 for 12 months and £ 2395.00 for 24 months (Plus £ 180.00 for the Porsche 111 point condition check). Seems a lot to me. Anyone got any views on what I should do?

Cheers.

How long are you keeping it for?

The warranty is a good selling point.

Several people who have the warranty have posted in the past that it's "more than paid for itself". If you've had the car almost 2 years - have you found that?

No plans to sell it at the moment. Question is how much of a premium is it worth for a car with a warranty? The other thing I am thinking is that in the event of a claim against the warranty won't the OPC put it down to wear and tear after 40k miles?

I have taken the car back under the warranty for trivial but annoying squeaks - Passenger door handle (now sorted) the other squeak is on the sunroof (been in but still not sorted yet).

Definitely renew, would be silly have had it last two years, nothing major going wrong, then as car gets older not renewing, and something more costly going. Also, OPC are less likely to wriggle out of claims, unless it genuinely isn't covered.

Also - you shouldn't have to pay for 111 point check when RENEWING. I am pretty sure that is only for NEW warranties.

I'd be running a warranty on your car for the BIG event.

The normal run of the mill running costs should be factored into your annual budget.

It's the 8 grand big one that the ins is ultimately for IMO.

I don't have one , I've got 3 year's warranty that I haven't paid for to put towards the big one , should it ever happen. Mine is a 2008 2.7 cayman so les likely to suffer the bore scoring or ims failure as say a 2006 3.8.

For risks you can easily afford to cover, do not insure.

For risks you can't, insure.

Have you got £8k ready if the engine goes?

You've got a 2006 C2S?

I wouldn't bother. If the engine goes bang, just bin the car.

But seriously, I have a C4S and haven't bothered. But then I have multiple cars and "self-insure". By not having a warranty on any I effectively have a sufficiently big risk pot to cover the "white whale" event. It's just a car. A pretty nice car but is it really that unreliable? If it goes boom just take it to Hartech, I think it's only a huge risk if you're thinking of getting an OPC to fix it!!

I would renew it.

Not only does it protect you from the cost of a big event, and lets face it, its certainly possible, but it will give you the peace of mind to just enjoy it as the good maker intended.

And yes, it's a selling point too.

No brainer.

Yes, definitely worth it for me. Saved me £11,000 when scored cylinders were detected at 29,000 miles.

Warranty insurance - it's all about risk

Are you prepared to take that risk?

Yes - don't have a warranty

No - pay the money

Spot on. Massive mark up on warranties over what they pay out (thanks to dealer, writer, underwriter margins etc) means, on average, that NO warranty is the way to go . But no such thing as an average car and you buy a warranty for piece of mind, not to save cash.

Had 2 cars with OPC extended warranty and can most definitely say it is worth it - it also helped me sell my first car privately.

More than pays for itself and removes the stress of car ownership if for example you hear a "new noise" - from my experience it is incredibly comprehensive....

If you do get the warranty, to reduce the price you can have Porsche assist removed which saves approx £200 and then negotiate with the OPC. I managed to get the 111 point check free.

I'm asian, I struggle to buy without negotiating first!!

It would have been a waste of 5k in my case. 4 years and apart from servicing and a couple of batteries (not covered by a warranty) never missed a beat or cost a penny (2006 C2S). Personally I think they are a waste of money but you do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Renew the warranty and proceed to thrash the life out of your car at every opportunity safe in the knowledge that the OPC will pick up the cost of any problems. You car will be 7 years old now so chances are things may start to go wrong.

The main thing is to enjoy the car and for many the warranty gives them the confidence to do so.
