Just a very quick question ...

Has anyone actually got their dealer to do a Sat Nav upgrade on a 2012 model 991 to the current 2013 spec?

Please let me know as I'm currently having a "discussion" with my dealer about this

Thanks

Oh please let me know how much this is and what do you get? Ours is appalling.

Pretty sure it's in the £500 ballpark. I certainly won't be bothering unless it's a free upgrade.

My dealer is saying they know nothing about this upgrade - ive told them I want it done before I collect my car 06/12 911 tomorrow

I need to know which dealer has offered the upgrade so I can tell them who to speak to

Thanks

I had two of my Porsches 'upgraded' late last year (2010 Turbo and 2011 Cayenne), to what I was expecting would be 2013 spec.

The normal price is around £500+ per car and involves Porsche supplying the OPC with a coded software download to install.

But, they still don't get 7 digit Post Codes !!!

It remains my biggest grievance with Porsche (over 25+ years of otherwise happy ownership) - their on-going and arrogant failure to provide customers who have invested in the various PCM systems over the years, with an efficient and cost effective 'updating' service.

Of course, Porsche management are oblivious to this because they are always driving the latest models with the latest software, so they really don't know (or care?) how frustrating this is for their poor customers.

Will it change? Perhaps, if everyone complained to Porsche in the strongest terms, the penny might eventually drop, and they would realise that, properly managed, they could generate some customer goodwill and a reasonable revenue stream.

I'm not sure if there's much difference. There's the jukebox function in 4.3, and artwork display, but otherwise looks like 3.41 to me. Maps seem the same.

Unless you're missing the holy grail of 7-digit postcode entry. Not sure which version that comes in though - have a feeling that 3.41 is available with both 4/5 and 7 digit entry.

My 991 has seven digit postcodes.

I recently found out why manufacturers like Porsche and BMW would have dumb systems with four digit codes - Navstar owned the license for long postcodes and the licensing costs were punitive. This has now expired.

And many months later I still have v3.41 with a rubbish sat nav and still no indication that Porsche is going to improve the situation.

So punitive that Garmin, TomTom et al can provide it on a £100 device, but Porsche and BMW cannot on an upgrade they charge £2k for?

They have to feed the cage of monkeys who are coding it...
