Hi all,

Before i go down the saga that means I have to drive 200 miles round trip to visit my OPC has anyone experienced the horn "sticking in" on a modern sport steering wheel?

I think the same wheel is used on a few cars, 09- Cayman, Boxster and 911.

I can prise the horn upwards with a wire but will not pop up by itself.

Just thought i'd see if there was a quick fix.

Thanks.

Had this happen.

Believe they just applied grease in appropriate places when it had a service and it hasn't happened since.

Hopefully yours will be simple fix also.

Also just had this happen on my Spyder.

First time I had to use the horn in 18 months and the bugger stayed on.
Had to fumble around in my pocket for a coin small enough to prise it out!

Bit embarrassing, to say the least....

Yep, just had this in my Spyder too. Very embarrassing, getting sorted at first service this month.
Was told not to touch the horn until then!

Ignition off (battery disconnected officially - you are dealing with an airbag)
Wait 60 seconds
Insert a small screwdriver up into steering wheel behind bottom spoke
Feel by gently pushing screwdriver backwards and forwards for a clip - its a U shape and you are feeling for the base of the U
Once located, push the clip up gently and if neccesary hit the wheel rim with your other hand - the airbag will pop out.
Apply grease ( vaseline or LM type will do ) to the raised sections of the airbag unit casing and on the teflon tape strips already there.
Test fit the airbag - making sure the loom folds in correctly behind - regrease or change grease location until the sticking point is eased
Push airbag home with a reassuring 'click'
Test horn push (ignition off so as not to annoy neighbours)
Tidy up
Pat on back for job well done...........

Post gold star if necessary........

Thanks for the advice although I couldn't quite get the job done myself....

Ended up nipping it into 911 Sport and they did the job in 10 mins, all done.

They even said no charge.

Great service as they were very busy.

Even though the car is under warranty they saved me a double trip to the OPC.
