Recently I've found the gearbox on my Cayman S has been a bit more clunky and graunchy, but put it down to the colder weather and the fact I'm doing shorter journeys ATM. It feels like the clutch isn't disengaging fast enough (also the bite point feels quite low down the pedal). However its even been doing it after a good run when everything is nice and warm. Pretty sure its not syncros as its not a consistent problem (plus its affecting all gears).

Today I took it to the dealer to get a short shift kit fitted and they mentioned that the clutch felt it was "getting ready for a new one".

Car has done 42k miles most of which has been motorway and a road work.

Just wondering how long everyone else has found their clutch to last, I've owned a succession of performance cars and none of which have required their clutch changing this early.

Lastly anyone know a good independent near Reading who can take a look/change the clutch? Not overly keen on paying a dealer if its going to be stupidly pricey!

My 911's on 80,000+ and clutch is still going strong. I heard they get stiff when worn out.

Regarding indi's in that area, how about Northway or Wrighttune?

I sold my Cayman S with 72k on clock, still first clutch and no sign of it wearing out

255K miles on my 02 Boxster clutch. 105K miles on my Turbo clutch. But a clutch can wear out at any time. Depends upon the treatment the clutch receives.

However before you spring for a new clutch...

Have you had the brake/clutch hydraulic system flushed/bled? This is supposed to be done every 2 years. Unless you've had this done recently and are sure it was done right I'd have this done first.

Be sure too you are not just getting sloppy. The clutch pedal should be fully depressed *before* the gear lever is moved.
