It would be a Turbo S for me as there is a huge difference in performance between the 2 cars. Only downside would be the centre locks as I like to be able to remove wheels myself when required etc.

Is it not possible to get the equipment to remove the wheels?

Good question. I've spent a quite bit of time with a friend's 997 Turbo 'S', and driven a couple of 991'S's, but not the C4'S'.

Personally, I prefer the Turbo 'S', it comes fairly loaded, originally cost nearly £130k new, and does feel pretty special. 991s are clearly competent, but just feel more mainstream.

WRT pricing, I don't think you can configure a C4'S' for less than £100k, and I'd want pccbs for a car at that level (which the Turbo has).

My understanding is that the new 991 Turbo won't arrive in the UK until 2014 (although we might see something at Geneva), in limited nos, and will be c.£140k or more otr, so the 997 Turbo 'S's in the sub £100k range will have kudos for quite a while.

Hi, thanks for your reply

I really like the shape pf the new 991, i really like the dash of the 991 & i really like the sound of the 991 (with the sports exsaust) - But like you say it hasent got the same power you would need/want!

I really like the 997 Turbo S, the dash now looks dated due to the new 991 dash, the Turbo S dosent sound great compared to the new 991 - But as you say its got all the power you would ever need/want!

991 C4S - You can get a demo with say 1000 miles for between £90 & £95

Turbo S - But for the same money i could get the Turbo S

If kudos is important, wouldn't the 991 C4S have more?

There is a bigger delta between the Turbo S and the rest of the range than most people imagine. I think they are a very underrated 911, even a 996 Turbo S will still easily show a clean pair of heels to most things, including a 991S.

I'd get the Turbo S.

The C4'S' might have some brief kudos whilst it is a new variant, but I think the Turbo and GT3 nomenclatures will always be seen as the flagship models.

On everyday roads there's not much at any price that'll keep up with with an S, even more so if it's wet!

The 997 turbo s is so fast,it's practically useless on public roads, you cannot access its performance for more than a few seconds ,well you can but you shouldbe locked up if you do.
The 991 is the better car ,better interior ,better handling ,better noise ,more useable performance ,better ride ,in fact apart from straight line performance the 991 is better in every respect IMO.

How long will you keep the car for? It may not be a concern but I would fret over Turbo residuals when the 991 Turbo comes out. I know the reasons why, in time, the 997 Turbo S will become sought after but in the short term I expect to see owners trade up to the latest shiny thing.

I love the torque on turbos saying that some might prefer newer tech? Ultimately comes down to what you want.

Thought about this. Surely they all depreciate, but on some models the rate slows. A used Turbo 'S' has already lost a fair chunk, whereas a new C4S will no doubt drop significantly as it goes out of the showroom.

Not according to the data.

991S would pretty consistently better a 996 Turbo S - game has moved on a long way!

Compare manual 991S to 996tts and the differences are more marked. That said, I haven't seen a UK publication get 8.4s 0-100mph on a 991S pdk !!

Launch will always flatter a pdk car.... from a roll the old timer would be showing it a clean pair of zorst tips.

Maybe, but on a blast on some of my favourite twisty roads the 991 will leave an old turbo, it's just so much more capable and accomplished.

I am not so convinced. I agree that with launch, the 991 will flatter it's power to weight ratio. However the 991s would seem to be a match for the old Turbo S in almost all sectors.

Factor in the much more accomplished chassis and grip then I believe the 991S will be away. Close, but away. This is car that has done the Ring in 7:37. As far as I can tell that is at least 10 seconds faster than the 996 Turbo S.

The reason why I sold my 996 so quick was that imo it needs suspension, brakes in order to be able to keep up modern machinery which is doeable but easier to buy the newer modelsmile
