Dropping Weight on a 996 Turbo Cab
Discussion
Hi All
I am considering dipping my toe back into the world of Porsche ownership. I previously owned 3 911s, the last a 964 cab, which had H&R suspension and some other subtle mods, a few to drop some weight.
I fancy a 996tt and please dont hate me for wanting a cab, it means the wife and I both get to enjoy the car.
My question is what are my options to drop weight in a 996tt cab. Ideally I would like to drop the 120kg that the cab roof adds. My thoughts were sports seats rather than fully electric. Any other ideas??
Thanks
Rob

Cabs are faster, FACT!
Also it's been scientifically proven that their owners are more successful and attractive to the opposite sex.
Seriously though, will you be using the rear seats?
I’ve taken mine out to make room for child seats and they weigh a fair bit.
You could also ditch the spare wheel and compressor gubbins....

Easy weight loss would come from:
- Front Seats (carbon buckets over electric saves A LOT)
- Rear Seat Delete (if you don't need them)
- Sports Exhaust
- Lightweight carpet set
- Spare Wheel and tools (though risky)
- Carbon Bonnet
That's probably 100kg or so there...
Let us know how you go!
You could then look at:
- Rear Wiper delete (motor etc)
- Perspex window set (for rear)
- Other carbon panels

Not sure any of those are possbile on a cab with the possible exception of carbon front wings!
Good point - was just picking some things off my old weight-loss list before I dived into a meeting!A cab is going to be hard, unless you get aggressive with the carbon!

Against normal advice for cars, when you're up to the weight of a turbo cab it would be easier and more effective to get it tweaked for a power increase instead.
Obviously this doesn't help the braking or cornering but then that's not what you buy a turbo cab for is it?
What he said.......map and zorst - sorted!Obviously this doesn't help the braking or cornering but then that's not what you buy a turbo cab for is it?
Hi All
Ok. Weight loss items would be front seats. Spare wheel an exhaust system.
Now onto power increases, while I have your attention. Is it worth searching for that ellusive turbo cab with Factory x50 or will an ECU flash give me equivalent power in a standard turbo. I understand that an X50 has larger turbos.
So power increas options please.
Thanks
