Just got the car back from service (993 C4S) and one of the things that has been picked up is that the drivers electric seat doesnt work.

I bought the car from an OPC 6 months ago with 12 months warranty, when I asked if this was covered under warranty I was told 'Dont think so'

Can this be right.

If you have the Porsche Master Plus warranty, the seat motors are covered and explicitly mentioned on Page 7 of the warranty booklet under 'Electrics'

Check the wording of the warranty very carefully. If nothing excludes it, and it couldn't be down to reasonable wear and tear, ask them to fix it under the terms of the warranty.

You are quite lucky in that there should be many 993 sports seats in dismantlers, should you need to fix it on your own. This would be cheaper, albeit not necessarily as good, compared to using OEM parts. Email me for the list of Porsche breakers if you need it. You could also try eurocarparts.com who have lots of stuff for Porsches at factor prices.

PS Electrical issues on cars of a certain age have to be expected. This may be why they were a bit dismissive. Still check the warranty tho'.

Which seat do you have ? And do none of the adjusters even try to work ?

I've heard plenty of cases of the fore/aft adjustment motor/mechanism on the non sport seats getting jammed at full rear travel - rectified by a sharp heave while activating .... otherwise check fuses, plugs/circuits...

You could be out of luck warranty wise - up to 8 years old seat motors are specifically mentioned (Master Plus) after that (Master) specifically NOT mentioned. But if it didn't work on delivery (have you not noticed ??) you could go back to the supplying OPC, perhaps. Whatever, do it NOW!

HTH, cheers, Maurice

I have the hardback sports seats. The one that isn't working is the one nearest the steering wheel.

The car is not 8 years old yet so that shouldnt be an issue. I will be having a chat to the OPC tomorrow.
