Hello gents, been a while. Bringing my old RS out of storage and shes about to get an engine out overhaul including cylinders and liners at Fearnsport. Are there any worthwhile power upgrades I should take the opportunity to do now?

cheers

I did the motec upgrade via Autofarm , noticeable more torque for sure, 304 on bob watson rolling road. expensive though not totally sure I would do it again . Best upgrade I did was cat by pass pipe and open the window!

What are you doing to the cylinders? They are either in spec or not, is it a top end refresh you are having done?

Keep it standard.

Or go mental and drop a 993 turbo engine in.

It's currently doing an impression of the Exxon Valdez, hence the need for new pistons and barrels. I'd keep it simple : Decat, live re-map, Cup pipe. If you want to improve the torque go 3.8 (but only if money is no object)
If you're thinking of going Motec with any of the usual suspects, don't bother, Matty has something far superior.

Hi Francis, FVD brombacher list these :

Matty has a contact there IIRC.

spill the beans, assume you are talking about a replacement ecu. what's a 3.8 with your box on going to put out? biggrin

I had cams, 993 throttle body, chip, decat and cup pipe and the car made just under 300 bhp on several different rolling roads.

TBH though for a 964RS I would be tempted to leave it fairly standard apart from bolt on stuff.

Can you drop anymore weight out of the car to make it similar to CS spec if not already? it makes the best difference IMO.

Exhaust
Battery
Lighter glass
Bonnet if not alu
Engine lid
Wheels
Lighter seats
Carpets

"Stock" 3.8 good for 300hp, add cams, injectors and barn door delete along with the fitment of said box of tricks, min 325RWHp and possibly a bit more (Note RWHp stands for Real World Hp rather than Rear Wheel Hp) smile

Is that not possible retaining the Motronic ECU? I'm not sure the barn door delete gives more power tbh, better response yes but much comes down to mapping. 300bhp is possible on a 3.6 engine with standard internals. Correct compression ratio and upside down pistons are simple effective mods.

Out of the four 964 RS's I've owned, I've never seen more than 282-285hp.
I'm a big fan of Motronic. Those that don't like it tend to be those that couldn't/can't map it. But having seen Vixpys box of tricks, I'd have to choose it over Motronic (especially a crude version like that in the 964) Motec or any other ECU.
It's a very trick piece of kit. Not cheap I grant you, but seriously impressive (albeit most likely overkill for a 964 as it'll manage traction control, control valve timing etc etc)

The smaller and cheaper s6 would do a 964 no problem.

Hi Francis I hope you have been keeping well mate. Roock in Germany used to do a few tweaks for RS's that seemed to work well. Not sure they are around in their original guise though. Say high to Matt for me, must pop in and say hello
