Do Dunlop D01J come in different compounds?

If so what would be the most suitable compound for a 964 on trackdays?

Does anyone know of any suppliers, preferably in the NW.

No I think you`ll find there is only 1 compound. Speak to dunlop direct on 0121 384 4444 or 0121 306 7059. They will courier the tyres to you and you can then get them fitted.

The only other people who might be able to help are Pro-Tyre on 01782 791 739.

Sadly they are part of the Micheldeva group who are a bunch of tossers, they wanted to charge me a £50 or £75 "call out fee" to fit some tyres because I turned up to their Micheldeva depot at 5.00pm. They closed at 5.30pm but had locked the gate early because there were already enough cars in to see them through to 5.30pm. The call out fee did seem a little odd as they were already there fitting tyres, still cowboys will be cowboys!

The Pro-tyre division are based in Stoke on Trent and are the "approved" supplier for our Porsche racing. In fairness those lads seem fine and have never needed to be bribed to fit tyres !!

Good luck and enjoy the rubber. Henry

Hey Tony, you old NW mate Phil Hindley ( Tech 9 ) can supply and fit...otherwise as Henry says you can get them delivered direct from Dunlop to the tyre fitter of your choice..only 1 compound , 'Formula R' .

The tyre people at Oulton today are Protyre. I've used them before and they have always been helpful and competitive.
Here's the rub - it was Protyre that suggested that D01J came in different compounds. I'd always believed they were only one type.
I'll ring Dunlop - they ought to know.

Tony,
I have spoken to Dunlop directly a couple of times for info on the track tyres they offer. They are very helpful. I got the impression that they are used to racers ringing up looking for advice (not just track day folk like me) and they didn't mind.

I spoke to Dunlop motorsport techical dept. today and D01Js are available in different compunds - but only those sourced in Japan.

The UK supplied D01Js are all the same compound.

The inference was that most of the other compounds were unsuitable for UK applications being in the main too soft and wearing too quickly.

I got the impression that other compounds were available but you would really really have to want them.

BTW it seems worthwhile ordering direct IYKWIM.

No, they are road legal track tyres see here; www.dunloptyres.co.uk/site/tyres/motorsportRange/saloon/index.shtml
whereas Dunlop Super sport race tyre are road tyre that is more suitable (than most other road tyres) on track.

Unfortunatly I think your GT3 has wider rears than DO1Js maximium width. Having said that IMHO the 265 DO1J is probably the most suitable trackday tyre regardless.
