Hi all looking to enter 911 ownership for the first time . My wife will get more use of it ( aaaaaah!!)as I have the pleasure of a company oil burner daily and I will only get to use evening or weekends.
Mileage will be low as she isn't working and does 4k year to shops and back. She will of course be under strict instruction as to engine warm up .Etc I am very trusting you are thinking.
What should I buy and what can I expect to pick up for that money. Happy to buy private if with opc warranty.

Any comments ( printable) would be welcome.

Thanks Darren

993 c4s or c2s wide bodies a safe place for your money, rare, beautiful and if you don't put on too many miles should be depreciation proof?

That's just about 997 Gen 2 money. C2 should be easy, some C2S, but C4S might be tricky.

If you want PDK rather than manual you might struggle a bit. I'm presuming a coupe.

Both suggestions above are sound but it depends what you want?

Classic or modern? Easy to drive or challenging? Noisy monster or luxury cruiser?

Etc etc etc.....

My question is the same as Darrens - From my investigations a Gen 2 will only be the carrera rather than the 'S'. What are the views on this in general?

Also my ultimate preferance would be for a C4S with PSE and Aero Kit etc - what are the views on this and how should i view a purchase - should i buy on condition + warranty or should i buy on price?

There are a few out there but with such a big spread on age / price!!!

There are not many wives who will put up with a 996 GT3 but you know your wife!

Probably best with a 997 Carrera gen 2.

GT3 is probably the least "easy" to drive modern 911 - perhaps with the exception of the GT2.

£40k would get you an excellent 996 turbo S, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much on one. £30-35k would get you a pretty good choice of turbos though - easy drive and very quick.

I haven't checked prices, but I assume £40k is still too low for 997 turbos.

Can I put in my two pence worth.

For the sort of money you have mentioned you could get a Boxster Spyder. Smaller, slightly cheaper to run and awesome to drive.

But then I'm biased smile

Gen2 c2. Is there a lot between the 3.6 and 3.8s. The 3.6 seem a lot cheaper is there good reason for this or is it vanity

For your budget, and the type of use it is going to get, I would go for a 97.2 c2 PDK all day long.

Sounds good advise and would keep wife happier I think with no clutch which will be a bit heavy compared to her mini would it

In my view vanity.
The base Carrera .2 is quicker than a .1s, especially if its pdk, and is faster than you can ever realistically use on the public road. It comes with all the toys that people bought the .1s for over the .1carrera bar the PASM, which a lot have anyway.

They're much sweeter to drive on 18s, but look better on 19's

I drove Carreras, S, 4, and 4s, all gen 2, and performance wise, the S is quickest, then the base Carrera, then the 4S. But any of them will potentially ruin your licence in 2-3 seconds of an road overtake.

Road tax is roughly half that of an S, fuel economy is much better on the gen2's too, and refinement is much improved.

I'd go gen 2 pdk, with the best options you can find (but then I did)

Nice did you go for the 18 or 19 rims . I think I'm swaying round to your way of thinking . The money I will potentially save over the s will come in handy for running costs

I am sure with a little haggling this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p... could be near to budget.

Here you go, a manual rather than PDK, but comes with 1 yr. Porsche Warranty, so presumably being sold SOR by the Dealer, but under budget:

Good Luck.
