I'm sure many of us have been in the same boat, my Boxster lives outside and when it freezes overnight the windows don't retract when I open the door which means I cannot close the door once opened.

I've tried warm water on the glass and door to defrost things but ended up in a right mess yesterday - long story.

Anyway to prevent/reduce this happening?

Common problem unfortunately. Some people put silicon grease on the seal but that make a mess of the glass. I just use de-icer.

It's only where the door / window seal has frozen to the glass - so if you pour warm (but not boiling) water along the point where the door meets the window glass (before opening the door). Hey presto - you can hear the thunk as it releases! smile

It's not the seal/glass contact... Door opens fine but the window doesn't drop, you can hear the motor clunking away and the window trying to go up and down, today I poured warm water over the window/door area (cople of litres) and eventually the window went down.

I think you'll find it is the seal to glass contact that freezes. What other surface does the glass come into contact with that would freeze and cause this issue?

My 987 does that too. The previous 986 acted the same as others have described above. With the 986 it was simply a case of sliding a credit card between the seals and the glass to get it to drop. I do the same with the 987 but it still chunks up and down until it eventually frees itself. I guess it must have a sensor that detects resistance.
