Stumbled across this link...

http://www.gabbatandbrown.co.uk/porsche996.html

I would be interested to see some examples posted by any intrepid DIY seat retrimmers out there....

Looking at the photos the quality isn't OEM. But I guess it is a lot cheaper.

There are so many different types/qualities of leathers out there some suppliers may offer a choice that 'surpasses' the quality of the OEM standard 'painted' leathers - which are nice enough when new, but end up ooking worn-out without seemingly ever having passed through a phase where it could be said that they have any sort of appealing patina...

Although few will want to spend a huge amounts re-trimming their £5k Boxster / £10k 996, there are hundreds of thousands of these cars out there and I'm curious as to why more people don't appear to be re-trimming them after say 10 years as it could give them a 'second life'. There's a never ending dialogue on paint correction / resprays but hardly anything about trim (other than a few threads about steering wheels)...

Interesting post, I have recently contemplated the re-trimming myself but the leather doesn't look too bad really - I think the car being garaged for the majority of its 15 year life plus my use of leather creams has helped preserve them a bit.

Not sure if it is really worth it unless you have a C4S or a turbo i.e. one of the variants that people seem to really want to keep hold of. Not saying that people don't want to hang onto their C2 / C4 as I am doing so with mine but the general impression I get is that the physical and technical appeal of the C4S and turbo results in them being (arguably) more desirable overall.

I contacted the outfit above and they said they can't really support the 9X6 (and later) models via their mail-order products so I will keep looking...

I put a new OEM steering wheel on my car last year and it was like driving a new car again for a while - although the incredible smell faded rather quicker that I might have hoped! I've tried Gliptone and a number of other creams in the past but none of them do it for me. Poke ones head into a new car in a showroom however and its like catnip! Why can't they bottle that smell? Saying that, I'm pretty sure that they can it's just that they refuse to sell it!

Oddly my Cayenne at 7 years old has that smell - people comment when they get in it (unaware of its actual age due to the registration but none of them thought it's new). It is nice. smile
