GT3 Wheel refurbishment
Discussion
Does anyone know of a company who can refurbish a set of 2 piece Gt3 wheels (sport design). Most companies won't touch 2 or 3 piece wheels or the ones that do are quoting almost £800 for 4 wheels. Has anyone here stripped one of these wheels down before? Can you buy just rims only without the centre as they are ok?
Just pulled this off of the GT3 forum of PCGB,
Don't know if it's of any interest.......... ??
If any of you with Mk1 GT3's require wheels for track day use give me a call. I have 4 sets of wheels and tyres which means space is getting tight (it's not a big caravan you know ).
The wheels are currently at Parr Garage but they have asked me to take them back as they also need the space.
Set of 4 Cargraphic wheels currently shod with Michelin Cup tyres (worn).
Retail circa £2,200+ For sale at £1,200.00
Set of 4 original fitment GT3 Mk1 wheels currently shod with Dunlop road/track tyres.
Retail circa £1,600+ For sale at £800.00
Reason for sale - I have 4 sets of wheels and tyres and I need space for other things.
I have asked Paul Robe to have a look at the tyres to see what tread thickness they have to assess the remaining life of the tyres. The tyres are F.O.C. anyway.

I know it wasn't your ad Glen, but...
Without wishing to sound naive - What the f*** do you need four sets of wheels and tyres for? - Some of these GT3 boys have more money than sense.
Come to think of it, something I've been meaning to ask for ages - Why were all the GT3 drivers giving passenger laps at Brands the other weekend wearing racing overalls? - A little OTT no?

Actually I was one of the GT3 boys at Brands and I had no overalls on and if I remember it was only 2 guys out of 20 wearing them, they had entered the 1 flying lap race, and were between heats! - so a bit OTT

Sorry Zanzibar! - I thought I saw more than that. I saw Richard Long in his flying banana, and another guy I think in an RS with black overalls.
How many sets of wheels do you have?
Best Wishes
Chris
Only my tuppenceworth:-
1] I actually thought that genuine Porsche GT3 wheels were one pece, i.e. the bolts were "cosmetic"
2] £200-00 per wheel is outrageous
3] Jasmine or many others in 911&PW will sell you a refurbed set for c£900+VAT outright
You can then sell your set on eBay for c£600 and the whole job was easy, with your car not being off the road awaiting wheels etc

Chris,
Well i don't know this Gary guy, but in answer to your question, i would say that he had a MKI GT3 then bought a spare pair of wheels to put some slicks on rather than having to go to the garage everytime to change tyres onto rims etc, now he seems to have a MKII GT3RS, and has done the same thing again.
I think it slightly wrong to label all GT3 drivers as having more money than sense, just people that are generally more serious about there track days than most
As for the Brands hatch thing, i gave hot GT3 laps on the Monday, and the only time overalls will be seen in my driving seat is when i sell the car !!
Allan,
MKI wheels were 2 piece (also known as sport design), MKII are one piece.

I used to think people who wore race overalls on track were t0ssers/poseurs. But then two members of this community (PH) crashed badly at the Nurburgring and the car was engulfed in flames. They didn't survive. Since then, I have bought myself a nomex racing suit, even though my talents don't live up to the packaging... and I try not to judge those who choose to dress in raceware. Nomex overalls aren't just there to carry the big logos; they might save your life on a race track.

Try www.lepsons.com - they did the BBS split rims on my old beemer years ago, and only charged about £80 a wheel IIRC.
They also do FOC collection in the south east.

I was also at Brands Hatch and wore a woolly jumper for the hot laps! Tim (in one of the RS's) was wearing a race suit because he was in the sprint.
Gary has not got a MKII or RS. He still has his MKI and too many wheels.
On the subject matter, I can recommend Chris at Diamond Styling but he is not cheap.

Chris no worries
I have two sets of wheels one for pilot sport cups and the other for my pilot sport tyres, basically summer & winter. As for refurb of Sport design wheels its apperantly very easy DIY, all you need is the star allan key to undo them, check the torque settings and make sure they are torqued to the same when they are re-assembled, there are no seals to deal with and you don't even need to take the tyres off. Send the centres to the spray shop, as for the rims remove the laquer and polish the rims with a fine abrasive, if you keep the wheels washed reguarly then don't bother with the laquer coating.
