Do people find that they get less, shall we say, impolite comments and gestures made at them when driving an older Porsche when compared to a newer one?

Thought I'd ask as I just had my first "w@nker" shout in the 993 after only a couple of months (996 took me a year to get one): light had just flicked from red/amber to green and I started pulling away (normally I might add) and about 1 sec later a guy tries to dive across the crossing in front of me. He gets about a foot out before realising that a car bumper is in all probability likely to be more robust than his legs, dives back and shouts his self pleasuring comment. Normally I just wave, apologise even if it's not my fault and carry on as life's too short. I'm afraid this time he got the finger displayed through my rear windscreen (first ever for me in 14 years driving) as it's been a pretty crap day overall so far in terms of me having to deal with incompetent/tw@ttish people of which I now probably qualify as now too. But dang did it feel good smile

What's that got to do with the pork? You could have been in any car and the same thing happen.

Just because you got a bit of abuse doesn't make them a Porschist wink

If someone does that to me I just get out the car and kick seven shades of ste out of them until I've damn well nearly killed them to death.

That'll learn them.

Seems a fair and reasoned response.

Nothing, if not fair, me.

But, wobetide anyone that calls me gay when I'm in the car - I won't be quite as fair.

Seeing that the shape hasn't changed a great deal since 1963 I would think the average man on the street wouldn't really know the difference between a new one or an old one.
So a jealous brain dead idiot would still get the hump with anything with a Porsche badge unless you were driving a Porsche panamera, then they would be shell shocked at seeing such an ugly car.

One day I'm going to buy a big smelly Land Rover, preferably a LWB one, purely to drive in London from my house to the Waitrose half a mile away just to watch the the greenies go apoplectic :P

I once parked in our local M&S carpark in my filthy pick-up.
Came back to it and someone had scrawled something about me killing the environment in my big, gas guzzling behemoth, in the dirt on the tailgate.

I trundled off chuckling about the £110 pa RFL I was paying...

I have friends in London, so am there 3 or 4 times a year and a few years ago saw a really snotty brown 911SC which was filthy. It was obviously being used as a daily.

I just thought that was the coolest thing to use in London. It's what I would do.

I'm not quite on that level yet, but my 993 is my daily drive smile I'm yet to prove whether it makes financial sense yet, but the idea was that since I paid £18k for it and it's already done 110k miles or so, the extra miles wouldn't devalue it so all I had to do was stump up more money for servicing than usual smile It's not quite going to plan at the mo, but as soon as I start chucking some more miles on it, the pence per mile cost should get a lot better!

I got an amusing gesture on the way back from the garage after picking mine up - as far as I am aware, utterly unprovoked. Is that a record?

I had owned my orange RS less than 24 hours when I was awarded with a friendly coffee bean wave. Sitting at 65 far left lane on a 3 lane stretch of the A1.

Chap in a battered Rover 45 pulls alongside and gives me and the misses a wave. Leaves you a nice warm feeling inside smile

I parked my C4S up outside a Coop supermarket in a fairly "modest" area and came back to it to find a woman peering at the badge and saying to her husband - "It's a Porsche, I bet it's really fast, lovely isn't it". ( I should add she was really smiley when she saw an old beardy git climb into it)

I get lots of compliments and smiles from my old 911T.
There is none of the hate that the new models seem to generate.
Not the case when I had my 993C4S though.
The early pre impact models are just so pretty and unthreatening.
