Had my 996.2 GT3 CS out for a few hours tonight and...

....I don't really have anything else to say other than WOW!
This was the first time I was able to open it up a bit since getting it in December and it just makes me want to drive it forever. I told the wife I was just going out for 40 mins or so but came home grinning like a wee boy nearly 3 hours later!
Obviously it's still quite cold at the moment so you have to watch tyre temperatures etc and coming from an AWD Impreza I'm going to take a bit of time to really get used to it but I just felt like I had to gush about it somewhere so why not in here

I took my 996TT out earlier, not for as long as you managed, but it was great to take it out after weeks of it being in the garage. I do hope next Saturday the weather will be good so I can take it for a longer run
Weather is due to be pretty good I think. Gritters were out again just now though when I was walking the dog
Nice one Clark, glad you're enjoying it.
I had my first day of tinkering today, stripping the rear bumper and back end off to fit sports rear boxes. I'll rebuild it next weekend once I've had some bits powder-coated and have my new nuts and bolts.
Can't wait to drive the bloody thing, it's an awesome car.
Hopefully spring has sprung eh.

If you all need an excuse to go for a drive in the country why not come to Donington Park on Saturday and watch us racing all manner of Porsches at the Motors TV Live race meeting?
I can't promise to be able to wave whilst driving though - I tried it once and the momentary slip in concentration very nearly had me off!

Good luck Goose. First race of the season?
We're meant to be heading to Oulton on Sat for the classic touring cars, then down to Rockingham for the Eurosaloons on Sunday, or I may just be on the drive again tinkering, as I want to get the car done.
There's a real sense of spring now with the race season kicking off and everyone dusting their toys off.

To buck a trend, I found my GT3 a bit frustrating, the gear ratio's are way to long and the low torque lower down was frustrating.
car only come alive after 6k and as it does >80mph in 2nd gear, you find your self a bit stuck in no mans land on B roads, and A roads are not much fun.
Right road right time and it's a great motor, UK B road, not so much , so I sold it.
would love to try a 997.2 GT3 RS with the lower ratio's
Or a GT3 with this fitted :-)

Was my first GT3 drive of 2013 over the b/h weekend and I was shocked when reminded of the perfomance in how big figures appear in such a short space of time.
I am still as addicted to the pointy, immediate steering with all the lustrous natural feedback it provides.
Also took a ride out on the GSX. With the pair, what a weekend
Weather on the up now surely!

I know you didn't get on with yours Mr D, but to say they don't come alive until silly speeds/revs isn't entirely correct is it.
It's the most alive car I've ever driven at any speed. I've driven my neighbours Spyder and whilst it's a great car it felt a bit like a muted, more sanitised GT3 comfort.
His makes a better noise when ticking over and driving out of the street thanks to his pse but that's the only thing it does better in my eyes.
It's horses for courses but they don't appeal to me.

Yeh I did the same with all the cars last week after (you brits will moan) a very hot spell down here. It was the first time I have driven the 996.2 GT3 properly since I bought it last November. I sadly read Jack Woods column more than I get to drive it (great writing mate).
I love the 996.2 GT3 (more so than the 997.1 GT3 and certainly a proper car vs the 997.1 C2S),for me the most enjoyable car I have had. Track day scheduled later this month. Going to run the silver rose in the morning and the Gt3 in the afternoon which should be a bit of laugh, suspect the afternoon will be a fair bit quicker :-)
Cheers MC

It's true that with higher rev ranges porche have used shorter gears and shorter gears = greater torque multiplication, hence better acceleration.
The 996.1 has the longest gears of all but still is a very quick car imo. You could dispense with the frankly academic top end of 187 (iirc) for a nicely spaced 6 shorter gears and have something even more brutal. The gearbox has interchangeable gears so is perfectly doable.
I'm on the fence with this mainly due to my GT3 being for occasional use and thus forgetting how quick it is.

nice to read about someone actually enjoying their car rather than banging on about depreciation or finance rates LOL
i too went for a pointless 100 mile drive today in my 981... sadly i'm to soft to have the roof down and its now covered in salt (i'll clean it) oh and its probably depreciated quite a lot now it has 960 miles on the clock

Clark, do you detail your car after every drive?
Glad you got to have a decent blast in it. Shame to have these things locked up.
Looking forward to the west coast at the end of the month
Jack
It gets washed after every couple of runs (usually a good foam and then air dry is often enough as there's so much protection on it dirt just doesn't stick, PCCB's mean no brake dust either) and maybe a wax now and again but generally my summer cars have always had one big Spring detail so I can spend minimum time cleaning it over the summer and more time behind the wheel Glad you got to have a decent blast in it. Shame to have these things locked up.

And Mr Demon - I'm in the NE of Scotland where we have roads you could only dream of
