Not this topic again I hear you scream...?

Anyways...I need some guidance and thoughts from the pistonheads masses

Been out of 911's for 3 years, currently in an xf (great but dull).Had a 996 cab for 4 years and loved it, 993 targa before that. Doing 15k a year now, mainly 40+mile journeys, not too much stop start.
Want to get a cab or targa (I know, I know, but some people like them!).

So what do I need to know?
- budget is in the 15-25 range. Big range but the challenge here is I hate depreciation
- I fancy a 997 but that would be top end of budget and have heavy mileage I guess, worth it?
- Turbo be fun but that leaves me a leggy 996 at top end of budget, too costly? or risky?
- Therefore am I sensible to stick with a 996 cab/targa in the sub £20k range? Keep 3 years and not lose too much? Guess i can upgrade the satnav stuff for decent sounds and phone etc...

Finally GTOne looked after the cars before and they weregreat but I've moved near to bracknell now and want someone more local, any specialists near bracknell that get big votes?

Any thoughts most welcome!

cheers all

Regarding specialists, Eporsch have now moved to Bisley. Otherwise Ninex is in Maidenhead.

You sure you want to own a Porsche in Bracknell? ;-)

Northway are just past Theale on the A4 and you can drop off and get the train back to Bracknell.

£20k is an unusual budget for a cab/targa, since a 996 C4S cab will be £22k+ ish and a 996 C4 cab/targa will be <£18k. A 997 will be out of reach. Maybe you should up/down your budget a bit.

As someone who has been out of the Porsche scene for 6 years due to family stuff, I have recently returned with the purchase of my 996 turbo just past your top end budget. Still in the honeymoon period but absolutely loving it, and the kids love it too. Mrs is slowly coming round to my decision to use so much of our savings. Despite right foot made of lead at the moment, currently averaging about 20mpg when driving reasonably sensible.

A 993 or 996 TT would be the most depreciation proof although you may have to stretch budget for a TTCab. I would go for a well looked after 993 cab and put some of the saving from budget aside for maintenance but thats probably the accountant in me talking.....

Cheers. I appreciate comments. Budgets are always a bit flexible but I was assuming to hold. Bit back for 'issues'.

Not really looking at a 993 cab, will need to be 996/7. Though coud do the targa again.....

997? You've had a 996 already. Don't go back incase you find it wasn't as good as you remember.

Downside is depreciation, upside is 2 year servicing. Although I think/hope 997 will depreciate less than the 996 as the looks are more liked.

I personally like the sat nav in 997 (no postcode though) and you can buy the Dension mobile add on to include Bluetooth.

smile.

Paddy
Do you have 996 or 997? What's ownership been like? Any annoying rattles?

Cheers

There is postcode search with 997 nav, only the first four or five digits though! Just put it into the 'town' field IIRC.

Yup. Unfortunately, the first 4/5 digits only get you to the town anyway, so a bit of a useless function really. frown
