As per http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
the above thread, which was the restoration of my first porsche (which I still have) I have now got a 2nd one, dragged out from a barn, and hoping to clean up and get looking nice, at least on the outside anyway!

Actually, technically this is my 3rd red 924 as i got one cheap for spares for my main car, but that's headed for the scrappy....

£350 what a bargain. You don't get much for that sort of money and by god you have done well. It looks half decent now. Hows the engine and how about some more pics of the inside. What you going to do punt it on or keep it?

Reds prone to doing that its the pigment, Vauxhall's back in the 80's were renown for doing it. Nova's especially. more often than not G3 cutting compound and a polishing mop can restore the paint back to its original lustre, some times even better. Unfortunately the shine doesn't always last for long on some cars. I did a an almost pure pink Nissan for a customer 15 years ago but 6 months later it needed doing again, so I did a full re-spray for them. That sorted it!!

Anyway more info on your resto please......
biggrin

Hey mate, are your finger ends not worn down enough from sanding that last one. hehe

Well done taking on another one. Nice turn around on the last one and I'm all for seeing the old stuff getting a new lease of life. Good luck with it. smile

The one I linked to in the first post was £370, which is the one that now owes me an extra £1,000 odd of materials and bits bought... biggrin

The donor car pictured in this thread cost me £300 including shipping from Cornwall, and that is nearly fully stripped out now and bound for the scrapper soon.

The one I have just bought (on the blue truck) was £280, with £50 delivery to me on Thursday all being well. This one looks a bit straighter so hoping its a better car overall. I'm hoping the paint isn't as much of a bar-steward as the first one. Fingers crossed this one has not had any bad resprays.

Quick extra pic so I can find this later

Interesting choice of aftermarket wheels. Front wing on this side seems to have been hit less by the sun which might indicate it has been resprayed more recently than other panels have (if other panels have at all, which I am hoping they haven't)

Great to read about, loved your paint work you did in the other thread. It partially inspired me than a Porsche for the price of an iPad was a good idea; http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Don't suppose you have a spare bonnet release spring/latch going spare I can purchase? smile

Literally just sold the one off my donor car. I see my links aren't working now - have a feeling I might have moved them around my photobucket album. ooops

Well, I have the car now, and it looks like a lot of painstaking work to come. A lot of the paint has been resprayed and lacquered and the lacquer is failing. So I need to remove that, THEN start on the paint underneath.... [sigh!]

This is my terrible trio of cars now. The one on the left is the one from the original restoration work, middle one new potential project/donor [not sure yet...] and the right one is definitely a donor, and bound for the scrapper soon....

Quick bit of investigation on the bonnet revealed it should be easier to get back to glorious red than the bonnet on the first one. Only took about 45 minutes to get the whole bonnet looking like the bit on the left in this photo. However, this might be the easiest panel to sort in the end.... [sigh!]

OK - bit more cleaning up today and little trial and error on various panels to see what will be needed long term. Kind of a 50/50 at the moment. Some will need quite a bit!

Apologies for rubbish photo. Just leaned out a hall window and snapped this on my phone (rubbish zoom)
