No wonder we Porsche drivers get a bad name......
Discussion
So I have just come back from a drive between Caversham and Sandhurst passing through Twyford and Hurst. Whilst approaching the quiet lanes of Hurst I noticed a nice shiny white GTS about two cars ahead. As we all filtered through the village the others cars pulled off just before the unrestricted section. I guess the GTS spotted me too, as he slowed to let me catch up as the others peeled off. I was guessing he wanted to impress upon me, how much better his nearly new car was or how much of a faster driver he was, i have no idea.
Now I have a 13yr old 3.4l with 150k on the clock, but fine I thought, I like a spirited drive as much as the next person, quite rightly he did pull away at first although he slowed far too much for the corner, I am guessing (he was new to Porsche/Didn't want to damage his £60-70k car/Lacked real driving talent - You choose). Fine I thought, I can understand that, as I dropped back due to the amount of stones being flicked up. - It was quite interesting to see how they compared.
This next bit is what concerned me, further up the hill (If anyone knows this area), heading into Wokingham there is a blind T junction at the top, plus I could see in the distance two horses on the road and a couple of dogs, I am not even sure he dabbed his breaks!! - One of the horses nearly threw it's rider and the other was certainly moving about. I had already slowed to around 20-30MPH and got myself over to the other side of the road as I passed. - Which I am so glad I did, as I went passed I noticed that both Horses were Police Horses in Training and the Woman on one of them seemed to be jotting down the GTS' numberplate!
I appreciate we all like to drive our cars in a spirited way, but that does not mean Dangerously, (I know many of you would like to ban bikes and horses from the road, but that isn't going to happen).
I would kindly ask that we all pay attention to other road users, I would rather lose face by being overtaken by a slower car, than be responsible for a horse throwing a rider etc. Then perhaps the press will stop attacking Porsche drivers whenever they can.

I think as a general rule you shouldn't submit yourself to comparison tests on the road (races, or whatever you want to call them) if you're going to get such sour grapes about it after the event if you fall short.
There's nothing to feel ashamed or inadequate about having a "3.4L 13 year old 150k mile Porsche", and yes the other guy probably was a bit of an idiot, but this thread seems like a pretty remarkable result to a bit of bad driving that you see day in, day out on the road, from all kinds of marques and drivers. Be happy with your lot, life runs much smoother that way

Don't be too hard on the OP - it's hard to resist the challenge from other drivers until you learn by experience not to do it.
Anyway it wasn't me, I live in Twyford and know that bit of road very well. Always tempting to drive it too fast. Could have been my dentist, he lives in Henley and works in Wokingham - I paid for his Porsche.

There is a distribution of good and bad drivers but sports cars are always more noticeable. I have occasionally had someone alongside me at a traffic light doing the vroom vroom thing. I usually give a little blip back and as the other person burns rubber off in the distance I drive off in my car at the speed of a Smart ForTwo. ( I actually have a Smart as well, but nobody ever tries to compete with me on traffic light burnouts. Fear, I suppose

This is why horses shouldnt be allowed on the roads. I mean, its not like we are living in the 1900's anymore is it?
At the very least they should have to carry a tax disc :-)
^This^At the very least they should have to carry a tax disc :-)
And we own one, but there is no way it is ever going on a National Speed Limit single carriageway - #%^*ing ridiculous.
