Just wondered what helmets you are using for track days and what regulations they have to meet?
Also where do you purchase them from, I am based on the Kent/London boundary and would rather go to a shop and buy so that I get a helmet that fits correctly.

Any suggestions appreciated, Thanks.

Essentially, helmets don't really need to meet any requirements for trackdays other than to be undamaged. Bike helmets are allowed but personally I'd go for a car helmet just in case you want to do any MSA events in the future.

I used to say this, but they do at Aintree! Ridiculous that they allow people to wear a shell suit butinsist on a Nomex helmet lining, but there you are. Admittedly its not as open an event a most, but they changed their requirement when the MSA dropped BS6658-A.

The current MSA approval is Snell 2010.

2005 is no longer valid but there may be old stock in some places - which are probably still a lot better than renting/borrowing one you don't know anything about the life of, but won't be eligible for any competition use.

Not so.

SNELL2000, 2005 & 2010 are all currently approved, as is BS6658-A F/R. The current Blue Book warns that SNELL2000 and BS6658-A F/R may be withdrawn, after the 2014 season and the 2015 season respectively.

SNELL2005 will be good to race for five years yet, perhaps ten!

Sorry my mistake. It's Snell2000 of which I was thinking, which was originally supposed to be withdrawn from 2011, but was then given a reprieve for another 2 years (i.e. 2011 & 2012) which I thought had expired.

very very heavy and very limited size for fitments

I tried these on at the autosport show, and was shocked at the weight, but it did not fit well any way.
If they fit (you def need to try these on) and you are happy with the extra weight of these then yes a lot of people buy them for track days.

Thanks for all the replies, shame that Alexreade only stock the Arai helmets as Brands is only 10 minutes from me and would really prefer to go to a shop and try them on rather than mail order.
