Cayenne boot struts - dealer or DIY?
Discussion
Afternoon, i've had a 2005 3.2 since September, and have been fixing a couple of very small niggles here and there, and the sagging boot/boot struts is next on the list. Sorry if its been covered, I couldn't see it, but does anyone have an idea of the cost to get a dealer to do this? Some of the (US) stuff I have read implies the price can vary quite a lot. I actually don't have an OPC that near me, so I did inquire at the local VW garage (assuming a similar set up with the touareg), but perhaps not surprisingly did not hear back...
Alternatively, ebay.de has the four struts for about £130 incl postage. Replacement looks DIY-able, but not sure I am brave enough. The part of the process I don't like the look of is re-sealing the struts back into the waterproof covering. I'm bound to do it slightly wrong and end up with a damp car...anybody here had a go?

I had two of mine done as part of my service (boot ones, not the ones for the glass). Cost about £100 + vat for labour (the struts came with the car).
I did the same searches you did, and it didn't look too difficult but I had other stuff that needed doing anyway, so it just seemed simpler. From the posts I found, it seems I'll be lucky if they last more than a year or two before they need doing again!

Ah, ok, well that's not outrageous I guess. I heard that it is often thought best to replace the ones for the glass at the same time. Still, at that rate, it could be more than £300 just to sort it, and if it may not last more than a couple of years I think I can live with it for now.
Cheers!
