Im currently in the mkt for a Gen1 997, either a standard 997 or possibly an "S"

Can some one pls explain the different exhausts...i see a simple 2 pipe, one either side (is this box standard), I also see twin pipes (2 on either side, ALL same size) and then another twin pipes (2 on either side but 1 larger than the other).

I believe the later is the switchable, with a button on the dash.....what is the other twin pipe system, is it switchable ?

Many thanks for any info offered

1st is carrera standard
2nd carrera S standard
3rd is optional PSE (available on both S and non-S) switchable sports exhaust.

Thank you - Does the S standard twin pipe make a better/different noise than the basic Carrera standard exhaust ?

Is there a Porsche approved sports exhaust for the 997 (2012) Turbo S? I assume not as the turbo constraints any sports exhaust but wanted to check. Im wouldn't buy any non porsche approved which would invalidate the warranty as whilst i would prefer the exhaust note to be a little louder, i not that desperate to invalidate my warranty.

@lordturpin difficult question, it's a rare carrera that has the std S pipes on it and vice versa i.e. I doubt anyone can answer that from experience.
Does a S on its std exhaust sound better than non-S on its std pipes, yes.

As for turbo exhaust, no, there isn't a official Porsche option, as far as I know and the number of posts I've seen lamenting the standard offer would have me believe. Happy to defer to someone in the know, as on this I could be wrong.

If it does it'll be because of the larger engine singing down it.

An aftermarket exhaust wouldn't invalidate the manufacturers warranty.

as above, very wrong. It has to be standard.

Extended warranty is the tricky one. Don't confuse matters.

As per Magics post, you can fit an aftermarket exhaust with a manufacturers warranty, it's the extended warranty which is a no-no.

Get your facts straight! biggrin

And there's the "problem" with the mighty Turbo S. Awesome car as it is, it sounds, well, a bit crap for the performance that it delivers and it was one of the reasons I got rid of mine for a 991. Yes, it sounds a bit better with the sport button pressed but its still a bit underwhelming. I'm sure an aftermarket exhaust would sort it but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
