Welcome,

No harm in looking is there, but if it looks a good a deal as it appears cosmetically in the advert you could always get a specialist
to run an independant report for some peace of mind.

Don't know the vendors but I'm sure someone will come along that knows of them to help with your question.

NB,
You didn't sell BMW's a few years back did you?.

Hi and welcome

I'd just like to say the below is my personal opinion and defo not preaching about what you should or shouldn't do.

It looks on the surface to be great value but I'm guessing the mileage is part of the reason for that. There are also a number of people (me included) that will only buy a turbo in coupe form but again that is personal so if it's what you want just keep in mind you may (preparing for people to disagree) have a smaller target market when you go to sell it.

Personally I don't like the black wheels and to my knowledge I would have thought the hard top should be the same colour as the body colour. I think I'm right in saying it was standard to have a hard top when it was new. You may have been able to spec this?

It has a load of extras on it so it would be worth checking out with the extras codes (think the sticker is under the bonnet) to check they are all factory fitted. I personally liked the fact that mine was totally standard when I got mine and as it left the factory. Again you should easily be able to track down the explanation of the codes on here.

I think the service records are a key to any car. I bought mine as it had a load of history with a load of the common things recently done like brakes, all of the radiators (search this forum for back ground), etc.

If you have any doubt a specialist inspection would give you peace of mind as they can be very expensive to run if loads of things go wrong at once. Mine has been maintained well so although things will go wrong and wear it hopefully won't be all in one go.

Hope this helps.

They are brilliant cars, so much fun and very fast.

I welcome all forms of advice. I realize a cab is less popular/common than a coupe but i like the idea of open top motoring. I dont suppose any of you guys live that way on do you. I live up north near hull and its a bit of a distance (although i don't mind driving it). Do any of you guys know much about the company as well?

Just an observation but I think this particular car has been for sales since December 2012, what I might suggest that if you can do an initial deal over phone/ email with the seller.
Then pay for an independent Porsche specialist nearby to do a full PPI, for example JZM Porsche Service Centre.
They will report back to you directly and you can then decided/resolve with the seller.

I have been monitoring it for a while which makes me a little suspicious, but £24000 for a turbo cab seems pretty good. I might ring them tonight. The mot thing worries me a little but that might just be related to it being for sale for so long hopefully its a good car, according to google its a 400 mile round trip which is why i was interested to see if anyone lived nearby.

I live about 20 miles from Radlett but getting the time to go there may be a problem as (shouldn't be on here!) I'm away a lot over the next few weeks.

Radlett is a very expensive area to live (check out Zoopla and set no maximum when you search) if it was sourced locally it may have come from someone who has maintained it regardless of cost but you never know where the dealer got it.

JZM are quite close to them so I would arrange them to do an inspection for you. It'll be worth the money.

I agree with the guy's comments on here and recently bought a 2003 coupe, which fortunately turned out to be in excellent condition both bodily & mechanically. (took it to the Pistonheads Sunday Service, at Mercedes World yesterday). driving

I actually live about 5 miles from Radlett (St Albans), but have not heard of this dealer. That's not to say they're not completely kosher!

JZM is not far from them and I've used Jonas there before to service my other cars, along with Porsche Centre Hatfield.

Do the turbos typically need replacing at a certain mileage? Ive got the number 100,000 miles in my head but im not sure if thats correct. Has anyone had any dealings with hcs limited?

Does the passenger airbag cover look a bit discoloured compared to the rest of the dash or is it a trick of the light?
I supposed it could just be ageing as cab interiors get exposed to direct sunlight.

Having a Full Dealer History must be a good sign.

Not necessarily unless the owner(s) maintained the warranty. All the OPC history shows is that it has been serviced - the owner(s) might have ignored all the advise on what needed doing.

You have to buy these cars on condition - some of the worse examples I have seen came out of the OPC network.

PPI a must.

As to life of turbos they are normally corroded well before this mileage - a lot of times they will still work, but if anything goes wrong, then the chances of refurbing becomes less.

Price doesn't see bad.

Only if the shop's having a slow period...

The turbos in the 996 Turbo engine last a long time, on average. I mean there are the occasional premature failure as there would be, could be, with any mechanism/assembly.

But given reasonable oil/filter service intervals, proper cool down after a run, the turbos should last as long as the pistons, rings, bearings, cams, lifters, springs, valves, etc.

There is a 996 Turbo S in the USA with original turbos and last I read over 350K miles.

My 03 Turbo has over 106K miles and the turbos are just fine. The spoiler system had to be replaced recently though.
