My 996 C4S is going into Guildford OPC on Weds to check over a slight squeal, engine area. Hopefully done under warranty etc but they have said i can have a courtesy car and confirmed it would be a Porsche. Anyone know what sort of cars they let out? Although i would'nt buy one, whats the chance it could be a new Cayman? Im afraid after having a 911 and its rear seat practicality it will be a 997.2 for me next but seeing as the Cayman is getting good reviews then i would'nt mind seeing for myself.

Generally what is available. Nothing to stop you from requesting a Cayman though.

Sorry for the silly question but could 996 get OPC warranty. I thought no car older than 9 years can get OPC warranty!

Can't buy it after 9 years, obviously the 996 was produced up until 2005 so could in theory be warrantied up until next year for a very very late one.

Sorry for late reply. The warranty is a standalone one for the engine only after OPC Guildford replaced it last year after IMS failure. As long as the squealing is engine based then i hope its covered. I suspect its water pump etc but ill find out tomorrow, all im bothered about at the moment is what im getting as a courtesy car.....ill let you know.

Given the profuction has only just started, I can't imagine that dealerships will have more than one Cayman on their books as a demonstrator, so unless they see you as highly likely to purchase a new one, if be amazed if you got this as your courtesy car.

I've had various 997s, 998s, Boxsters, Cayennes and a Pannamera as courtesy cars, but interestingly never a Cayman...

Well it was a Panamera. In fact i still have it. And my opinion of it......not good!
To sum it up its too big. Its all very nice inside but i prefer the dated interior of my C4S. Too many buttons, dont like the separate heater controls for each side, steering a bit too light and when you look in the mirror it looks like the bloody rear window is 30ft away! I certainly dont need a button to close the boot (laziness!). I bought my 911 without buying it and dont regret it, if i was to do the same with this thing i think within a week i would be trading it.
I brought into my Army Barracks and although a fair few thought it was awesome a few lads who have some decent cars thought along the same lines as me. A lot, like me said a Porsche should be a nimble throw around the road sort of car, this thing isnt.
But not to waste it, im off to Dorset tomorrow to drops some docs off, so me and 2 other Soldiers will be going down the M3 tomorrow, so i may change my view then but i doubt it.

Mate true, but to buy my Porsche started a few years ago to clear any debts i had then going off to Afghanistan for the 3rd time for a 6 month tour. On my return i was able to buy my car cash. I look after it but i also drive it in all weathers and not entirely steady and sedate a lot of the time!!
