Morning all,

I have a 997 Carrera S in Seal Grey which I haven't had long. I knew the wheels needed attention and I'm weighing up what to do. It has Carrera S 19" and I'm not sure whether to just get these refurbed and keep them as they are. Or, I've toyed with the idea of getting them done in black. Or, should I go for something else altogether and recoup some of the money by selling my own wheels?

I'll probably do all this at the same time as replacing my tyres as they don't have long left in them. So, also considered getting a used set of used wheels/tyres as a set. Having monitored eBay over the last week or so, there are some decent sets out there and these could be a cost effective way of doing things (again, I could sell my old wheels).

What are peoples thoughts? Should I just keep it all original and get my own wheels sorted (been quoted £400 for this - for a complete refurb, getting dipped etc.)? Or, what other wheels do people like?

cheers,

andyc11

Really down to personal preference, I think the 997 looks amazing with the Carrera Sport wheels but they're quite sought after. For me, not a fan of black wheels unless they were intended for the car originally.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you don't buy wheels that are heavier than the originals!

Personally, I think the lobster claws look great on the C2S, I had them on mine and once they were cleaned up they looked great.

This recent thread might be of use.

Personally think the lobster claws are awful wheels, and the ones the chap went for in the end were (by far) the best option.

This is my old C2S on collection day, I still think it looks good on those wheels...

Indeed - my tastes have changed. Used to love lobster claws, then bought a Box on classic rims, then my Cayman on those mini-lite style rims... I don't think any are ugly except those 997.1 Turbo rims - which are awful.

Hmm, Carrera Sports do indeed look nice! Thanks for the link to that thread too.

I do like the lobster claw ones I have actually, but my head has definitely been turned by the Sports. Not overly fussed about the Multi-spoke or the Stars though.

Anyone have any good tips where I might find a decent set for sale? eBay drawing a blank at the moment.

The 'Lobster Fork' wheels can be improved with a change of colour and shiny wheel bolts.

Here on my previous car in anthracite.....

I love these wheels on a 997, I can't think of a better wheel for it.

I do like the Carrera S's and think I might actually just stick with these - Sports are going to set me back an arm and a leg by the look of it.

I'd go for the 'star'design as I think they look great and being from the Gen 2 cars instantly make your car look fresher.

Thought I'd post an update on this....

After I started this topic, a top Pistonheader got in touch saying he was looking to sell some Carrera Sports. We did a deal and I'm delighted with my new wheels smile

Nice! They're the best looking Porsche wheels apart from the Spyder rims I reckon.

I know what you mean about being subjective. Whilst I prefer these Sports to the 'lobster claws' I don't dislike them to the extent some seem to! If they didn't need a refurb I'd have kept them I think.
