After watching a youtube video of Romain Dumas throwing his 997 GT3 RS round a rally stage it just occurred to me that there is no talk on here of rallying 911's.

Does anyone here know anyone who rally's their car or can anyone point me in the direction of a site where I can learn more about rallying Porsches?

I would love to know what goes into getting these cars set up for this kind of work.

I thnk you'll find quite a few that do classic rallies. Not a scene I follow so there may be other more prominent events but the Tour Britannia always has a selection entered. Unit 11 prepare and run quite a few and for top notch stuff in international events look at anything that Tuthill's do.

I quite fancy a go at it if anyone knows where I can rent a seat (I'd need a navigator/co-driver too). driving

I would be more than happy to be a co-driver biggrin

Do you know of any sites on the internet that feature rallying 911's or any specific forums dedicated to them?

Anyone? I would be most grateful

From previous research on rallying there is not so many dedicated manufacturer sites, they are more general rally.

It depends what you want to do, local gravel forest stages or European mountain tarmac.

Have a look into hillclimbing too if you prefer tarmac. That's something i'd love to have a go at.

Hillclimbing is easy to get into - buy a licence, get a helmet and race suit (or borrow them), turn up & off you go! driving

Point and squirt! Looks effortless and 9 tenths effort on in car camera. But quick drivers often look like that!

I know lots smile

For the road regularity rallies with closed special stages then look up Howard Warren and Guy Woodcock.

Andy Prill at Maxted Page & Prill looks after quite a few client cars for Tour Auto.

The Bakers (father & son) rally a 911 SC in the HERO Events stuff. In fact they just won the HERO London Lisbon rally that finished a few days ago.

This is me behind a friend's rally prepped 912 on last years Scottish Malts rally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iY4llxJsLs

That is awesome, thanks for sharing. Bit pricy if you get it wrong, which happens quite often in Rallying...

Just returned from Tour Britiannia in an 911 SC - bit cheaper to repair whatever you run into...

Rallying is great for our panel sales as something is always getting ripped off, damaged etc. they really do stick to the saying when they dont know the road ahead of- if in doubt, go flat out. i know ben coles, dansport, prepfab and tuthill do a lot of cars for many events and some of them rent cars out. they talk about some of the figures, and it can get very expensive!

Given the 50 year anniversary of the 911, the centre display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year will be featuring a wide range of differnet models.

Rumour has it that this will also be going up the hill:

I guess you weren't on notes there "square left - er rounded" hehe

Seriously though, that's a great event - I know folk who have been marshaling on that and they keep trying to get me out but it's always a mid-week stage.

I remember a fairly recent thread in General Motorsport about how to fix rallying, where it was explained why GT3s aren't eligible under uk regs.

Tuthills run their Rally Challenge http://www.francistuthill.co.uk/prc_index.asp for a fleet of 911s and build many more for historic rallying ect

Any chance of a summary of those reasons please, or even just the link to the right page.

Thanks
