Cayenne Turbo warranty

Hi all,

I am after a bit of advice, info etc on the following.

I am looking at 3 cayenne turbos in the next couple of days.

One has a Porsche warranty which runs until October. The others don't.

My question is, can the warranty be transferred over to me if the car is not being sold by a Porshe dealer?

Can be transferred if under manufacturers warranty or if bought from a private seller if it's an extended Porsche warranty.

So can it be transferred if I am buying from a non Porsche garage?

It's a extended warranty.

After 90 days it can be transferred and if car has been serviced according to schedule by Porsche. However recently there has been an amendment that if car has been serviced with a recognised Porsche specialist it will still be possible to have warranty rather than only at OPC.

I think I know which turbo you are talking about and the dealer didn't know much about Porsche.

Only if it's under the manufacturers warranty. If not, you have to wait 90 days before you can take out an extended Porsche warranty.

I don't think that's quite right. After 90 days you can take out a new warranty subject to the check etc but any existing cover "dies" as soon as the car passes in to the trade. There's usually a clause to state that even on a transfer of private ownership the warranty transfer must be completed within X (7, 14?) days.

In practice in the case of non-OPC sales many warranties get transferred to the new owner anyway (after all, the cover's been paid for, so it seems unreasonable not to be able to benefit from it).

Prior to the 90 day rule coming in I (as a dealer) sold a Cayenne Turbo, had it checked and remedial work done (at Sports & Classic), then having passed the check the customer collected the car, drove to the OPC and paid for a year's cover - only to later be refunded by Porsche GB because they were already showing a policy in force for that car. He made it clear how he'd bought it and they said that was fine and transferred cover to him. Obviously I missed a trick and could have had the remedial work done under the warranty but you live & learn..

That car and 4 others didn't fit the bill but finally this one did.

I wasn't looking for a black car but when this one came up it ticked every other box so I went to view yesterday and came home with it a very happy boy.

Just bought a 2009 Cayenne S with 48,000 on the clock and am contemplating a warranty.
I'm planning on owning the car up to 60,000m and then selling it.

Is the consensus it's worth buying a warranty?

I don't have one on my 2006 S, bought at 107,000 now on 118,000 20 months later. Besides a wheel bearing last month it's not needed anything else (apart from front brakes which I think I warped towing). No warranty (and a worn wheel bearing wouldn't have been covered anyway) so I guess I already have circa £2000 in the pot (based on what a decent warranty would've cost) if anything does happen.

I have the option on a 'Prestige Warranty' by Abraxas Insurance via Stratstone for £699 for 12 months but need to decide by tomorrow. I'm normally anti warranties but I'm tempted for added piece of mind know how expensive engines can be. (I previously paid £5k for a rebuild on a Jeep).

Also very tempted by a 2year paint/body work warranty for minor dents n scratches for piece of mind against car park door dents and the like. 2 years at £399.

Felt I got a good deal on the car at £20k for a vehicle which has all the big options and was £65k new.
