Based on the feedback on the PH forum I was about to order the GT3 short shift kit. However when I was booking the car in with the garage they mentioned about a cheaper option on ebay which can be found here http://bit.ly/10RQz3D

just wondered if anyone had any experience or views either way

many thanks

I wouldn't bother. The standard throw suits the car.

it wasn't high on my list of to do items, however the linkage has become sloppy and the car is going in for service...so might as well as do something about it.

feedback on PH suggests its a noticeable improver!

It's night and day. My point however is that the short shift then puts the controls at odds with each other. The GT3 shift works in a GT3; the Carrera linkage in a Carrera.

IME.

GT3 shifter in a Carrera isn't a huge amount shorter, what it is, is more precise and mechanical feeling

that precision is more what I am seeking rather than just reducing the throw...but a bit of both would be nice

I found it no shorter, same throw length, but the precision and rifle bolt feeling from the metal bushings is much preferred. smile

Just had the short shift kit fitted to my GTS at its first service.

Loving it!

ETA: Give Chester a call - they probably still have my standard one in the workshop - only 11K miles on it and they may just fit it for the cost of labour!

I've driven a 996 GT3 (in competition) which allegedly has a short shift gear change -I found the whole think baulky and unpleasant - is there a trick to setting them up to be fast and accurate?

The short shift rather than the GT3 one.

I think I used the same ebay supplier for mine over 2 years ago. It is a great improvement and the kit has been fine

what difference did you notice...was it a shorter throw and/or a more precise shift? also what car did you have it fitted to? thanks

Both - I found it much shorter and precise. It took a little bit of time and miles to adjust but feels 'normal' now. I fitted it to a 996TT

Well the ebay kit has been fitted today and wow what a difference it has made...it should be standard on new cars.

I had it fitted at http://www.revolution-porsche.co.uk/ for £60 fitting charge plus the £50 to buy...what an absolute bargain.

I find the throw shorter, but it's the precision of the change that is most impressive... Not that I needed an excuse to keep changing gear, but this definitely encourages more use of the gear lever!
