Does anyone have any experience of shipping a Porsche either in a container or RoRo? I'm considering doing a European road trip this summer and thinking of shipping my GT3 to Sorrento so that I can start our journey from there and drive it home. RoRo seems to be half the cost of a container but I've read comments about RoRo being preferable to a container. One shipping company I've spoken to recommended RoRo but later informed me that Porsches (and probably Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc ...) were not accepted because of concerns over ground clearance.

Any advice/recommendations are gratefully appreciated. Thanks!

I run a car transport co & must say shipping from uk to Italy is a new one on me.

Usually its an open or enclosed proper car transporter, load in uk few days later & its delivered.
If you want an idea of prices with us or others drop me a mail.

If you can sort loading docks both ends you might be able to use regular haulage trucks, some east European co will prob jam it in with some machine parts & potatoes.

Try adamcini.com

They ship from the UK to Malta (well, via transporter) so it could be a possibility that they drop off your car en-route.

I suppose they could sort something out.

Owner is into Porsches and Lambos so he does appreciate and understand all our concerns.

I sold a 964 via eBay to a Roman buyer and got a UK company to transport it by truck for about £1100 (from Cheshire).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll make some calls after the weekend. Shipping the car to Sorrento makes it easier to explore further south in Italy without extending or increasing the length of the trip.

Geting cars transported down for that reason is v common, just I've never heard of them going by ship is all, are lots of car transporters going up & down to Naples & even Sicily.

Have to be careful ref insurance many cos wil only cover under cmr general haulage rules in EU, fine but only if you are happy with £7k ish a tonne payout if the worst happened, rather than proper all risks cover.

The later costs the co more, costs me double in premiums for example for all risks £200k cover,vs cmr haulage cover in EU but pretty essential if you transport high value cars.

Thanks for the info. That makes perfect sense. Do you mind if I call you tomorrow?

Alfa Romeos are built in Naples and imported by boat to avonmouth, Bristol
the bots must return there or do a circular trip

might be worth ringing avonmouth docks or a shipping company near there

I must firstly comment that I have no connection with adamcini.com other than that they transported my sisters ML-Class and she was very happy with the service, and that I will soon be asking them to take my 996, but they do insure properly (well, you pay for it) which is why they ask you for the value of the car and quote a premium accordingly.

I don't recall as they quoted me a few months back but it was sub-200-ish. (the insurance not the transport!)
