Thoughts on this 996tt DMS
Discussion
Hi Guys
Tempted by a 996tt - always liked the thought of one.
This one looks a little tempting http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Thoughts? Any others out there that people have seen recently that I should consider (sub £25k...ideally less).
Cheers

The mods put me off. I am not a fan of mod'd cars.Tempted by a 996tt - always liked the thought of one.

If the mod's don't bother you then go look at the car. Give it a thorough check out. Have the owner take you on a test ride covering 15 miles or so and drive the car in a variety of ways.
If you still like the car take the car out as a driver and cover the same route and drive the car the same way.
You want to give that car the engine drivetrain time to show up any issues.
Back after the test drive give the car a thorough used car check out. Assume nothing works until you verify it does.
Some (but not all) problem areas: spoiler, gear pop out (6-speed), non-functioning clutch accumulator, leaking slave cylinder, noisy power steering pump tank valve (squeals like a pig), radiator or condenser leaks from trash collecting in the radiator ducts, leaking transmission seals, shifter seals, noisy/loose cardan shaft.
Course there are a number of other areas that can leak. The Turbo is just a used car so treat it like one and check everything.
After the used car check out then if you still like the car and believe you can buy it arrange for a PPI. Among other things the DME over rev counters will be read. Post here for comment.
The ad sounds written by someone who knows what he is talking about & the car seems something of a bargain if you were (as you probably would) going to do the mods yourself after purchase.
Good service history & nice colour combination. . . . . . grey could be the new black ! ( & a lot more comfortable on a hot day )
