Just received a new recall on my 2010 997 RS.2

The text reads:
" Porsche has determined that an intake air distributor may have been installed in your vehicle during production with a guiding shaft for the resonance flap that does not meet Porsche specifications. As a result, the shaft may break and broken pieces may get into the intake duct or, ultimately, into the combustion chambers. This can cause loud noises and may result in mechanical damage if the engine is not stopped immediately.
To prevent any damage occurring the intake air distributors in your vehicle need to be replaced"
Work is under warranty. Wonder if this was the cause of engine failures ? - sounds as it it might be catastrophic in track conditions. Recall is in Canada, by the way.

read a while back some cars were failing due to the sealant between the 2 crank halves was not adequate but recalled all cars because of this and someone on here had their car stripped and rebuilt" Porsche has determined that an intake air distributor may have been installed in your vehicle during production with a guiding shaft for the resonance flap that does not meet Porsche specifications. Similar recall here in the UK - more info here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a..." Mine was stripped and rebuilt due to the lack of sealant between the block halves. From new it had always burnt far more oil on start up than I had ever seen on any 911 - so maybe a clue.
I did not realise it was a recall.
As for the air intake - about a year ago someone posted that on here very authoritatively, but was shouted down.

i dont think they did it as recall some cars failed and others were done as a precaution?or maybe so it did not spread over the internet that the flagship gt3 had a problem!

Old Trout's a one off we believe, the air intake is across all 7.2RS and 4.0...and the reason for engine issue. Basically a part (screw I believe) detaches itself in air ntake manifold, and gets sucked into engine and bang... Ultimately something very small.
We got our recalls about a month ago and I had mine done immediately.

How long does it take to do the air intake, an hour, an day , and would you expect a courtesy car ?
It takes them approx 3.5hrs...more than their allotted time, and this was after they'd already done three ahead of me and learned how to do it.Courtesy car - I got a brand new 991S...I would think you'd get something if you book in with enough notice.
