Keep the merc and get a 997 GT3. That's what I would do, but it really depends what you like.

Oooohhh good call not considered one of those.
Will take a look, I'm loathed to spend any money on a family car as it sits outside the house all week and gets used to go to the park and once a week if that with the kids and once or twice a year to France/Germany/holland etc

Keep the merc and get a GT3. If you go 996 you'll have a nice track budget too!!

Cheers

OP get yourself booked on a few test drives and see which car you get a feeling for.

You need to decide on a max budget though. All £50k on one car or split it between two?

I would suggest the following as a list of cars to tick off....

Cayman R
996 GT3
997 GT3
996 Turbo
997 Turbo

I was just going to add this to the list.

There are a couple of nice ones on the market at the moment: one at RPM and one at 911 Virgin. I drove the RPM one a couple of days ago and it is mint. smile

its all gone a bit odd so this is what i have bought so far this week.... The 911T went today. made some money there so Im happy. The e-class went today made a little there too.

Today ive bought a 2010 Discovery 4 HSE, its a beautiful car and a monster family wagon, santorini black with almond leather, piano black trim, cameras, etc. its very nice. Thats the family car sorted. A silver 2003 Smart fortwo passion, lovely little go kart thing, ill use that for commuting every day. This leaves me with about £20k (i found some more money under the mattress) for a toy car if i want. Ive got a car loan to pay off; dont have to but its £12k so could do that and have £8k left for a cheap fun car? But top line budget is £20k

So new challenge is (and thanks so far all Porsche clearly) a couple of non porsche though too....

Early Boxster S
Impreza P1
Mk1 Focus RS
944 Turbo
968
running out of ideas now.....

That's pretty fast work going from £50k to spend on Sunday down to just £8k now!

You could get a nice(ish) 928 for that sort of money...

This. Especially if you can stretch to circa £10k.
