Any recommendations on books or courses for learning how to be handy spannering old 911's? Don't think I am going to be building my own engines but I'd like to be more hands on - any thoughts?

The Bentley Publishing service manuals are well regarded, if alittle pricey but well worth imho.

There you go. And over here many community colleges (2 year colleges) offer associate degrees in automotive mechanics. I assume something similar exists in your region?

One doesn't have to take all the classes that are required by the degree but he can take some (specifically the basic shop classes) and as many more as he has the prerequisites for or the instructor will let him in based on prior experience and how well he did in other courses.

I suspect that we use the term college differently (with Merkins using it for a higher education establishment). Colleges here are further education and universities higher education.
