991 metal sunroof - don't bother
Discussion
Just a note for any prospective new 911 owners out there...
I'm a new 991 C4S owner, had it built, specified the sliding metal sunroof on the recommendation of the salesman without seeing it first (my own fault I know).
The sunroof barely opens more than 1 foot, almost totally useless. Lovely piece of design, but practically it has little to no function.
I know at this sort of price point people aren't likely to care about their sunroof sizes, but it just bugs me.
If you want wind in the hair buy the cabriolet, if not save the weight (and cash) and don't bother with the sunroof.

Got to disagree, as soon as the sun is out I have mine open all the time, and now have a very brown forehead to prove it. The aperture is enough to get the wind in your hair and hear more of the glorious sounds from behind. I would agree that a lot of metal moves for the gap that is opened but oh, the sound...
Good post however have to disagree regarding the design.
Was one of the little things that put me off the 991 from the launch night. Seems a crazy / poorly executed design to me. What was wrong with a fully opening roof that slides neatly between the roof and the headlining ??

Anyway, got over this when I drove one (without the sunroof
).
Does the glass roof open in the same way ??

The Cab is the answer. It's so stiff, it drives like the coupe. The roof is a work of art and a miracle of engineering all at the same time. Those aluminium panels just make it seem like a coupe roof when it's up and it's a great drive with the roof down. Only downside I can see is that the rear seats are a bit more upright than the coupe. I agree with the OP that the sunroof is a waste of money on a new coupe.
Top down and PSE on is hard to beat!

The headroom inside disapears?
Anyway, would rather lower my seat than have one of these monstrosities on my 991

Fine if you're short - but point taken - it does ruin the lines!

Agree from the outside it doesn't look amazing when open fully (more than ok when tilted actually).
But from inside its really not that bad.. It opens more than the old one for sure and definitely brings an open air experience to the car. If you want the full one you can get the cabrio, but that's a different car...
I honestly personally don't dislike it at all.. And the added "lines" on the roofline.. You don't even notice them anymore after a while, especially if the car is darkish.
