Engine number on V5
Discussion
Does your V5 have an engine number?
My 911Carrera 2 was registered in September 2003 and in the space for engine number it says "not known".
I know that the engine that is in the car is not original as it was exchanged sometime in late 2005/early 2006. I have only just discovered this change so will inform DVLA in due course.
I think this is the first time that I have had a V5 without an engine number.

As Reedman has said, a lot of imports don't have the engine number on the v5, as it isn't a requirement and was easier than trying to find it, if the paperwork to hand didn't have it when importing, however if its had a new engine, then again, might have just been easier to delete original number off v5? But would have thought somebody who went to the trouble of this, would have got the replacement details before fitting.
Unless the replacement engine is different in its type or capacity, there is no need to inform the DVLA, or if you now have the replacement engine number, then obviously let them know to update the record.

Thank you for the replies.
It says "not known" not "unknown". Sorry for confusion.
The vehicle is not an import model. I have checked that out.
In the service book it just gives M9603-663. This gives the number of cylinders, the type and the year. This comes from the "663" part. The following 5 digits for the specific engine number, starting 2****, are not present. However, I do know what they were.
The current engine in the car dates from 2005.
It's number starts M96/03 AT 665 *****. The "5" in the 665 group denotes the year 2005 and the actual engine number starts 6****.
The engine in the car is about 46,000 units later than the original engine. Assuming the numbering started at 500.
You will see that the letters "AT" have been inserted on the engine block space in the same type face. I believe the "AT" refers to Austauschmotor, which means exchange motor.
What I am really trying to discover is were "AT" engines a frequent event and were they different in any way? I was pleased to discover that I had an exchange engine, which is a good few years younger than the car. But I am finding it hard to unravel the history. Does anyone else have an engine with an "AT" stamp?

Have you confirmed with Porsche GB that they imported the car or found the UK OPC supplied the car then? Otherwise, even if it shows as a C16 (UK spec) car it's likely the supplying dealer was non-UK and that's why the engine number is not shown on the V5C. OPC's do not register cars they supply without the engine number being shown on the V5C.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
