944 overheating?

Does anyone know what tempreature a 2.7 should run at?
What temp does the thermostat open?

My 1982 bodied 2.7 appears to be running hot on the gauge ie in the the top 1/4 of the sweep. The fans work fine and no more often than usual. Changing the the rad and thermostat has made no difference. It still shows hot. After an extended fast drive the header tank is still cold and very little pressure has built up in the system. All this suggests to me that maybe it isn't hot and it is just the gauge or sender playing up.

Does anyone have any similar experience?

Just had a similar problem on mine. Turned out to be the impeller had come off the waterpump.

Does the radiator get hot?

Are you getting steam from the bleed screw and no water?

The rad is heating up just fine and plenty of water comes out of the breather. So I guess the pump is ok.
