Hi, im after some hints and tips for going to Le mans next year. Is the atmosphere better staying in the circuit, or off circuit?. Also travelling from Portsmouth so best ferry route to use etc. Any advice welcome.
Aslo driving down in more Porsche 911, and a friend in Megane R26 so are there groups to meet up to convoy down etc?
Thanks

I'm going next year as part of a small group, went in 2009 and it was brilliant.
Personally, and it is only IMHO, staying off circuit is missing half the fun. We were staying at Tetre Rouge and being kept awake by the Corvettes and just wandering over to the track at 4am was part of the memory. Being less than a minutes walk from the track isn't for everyone, but I don't really understand staying off site.

Well we do it a bit different to most and do Portsmouth > St Malo over night. Plus sides are you get on in the eve at Pompey, have a nice eve on the boat and wake up in the morning fresh and in France. Plus the route from St Malo is policed rather differently than the traditional routes, I've never seen any on that route at all.
Downsides, it's more expensive as its an overnighter, and you miss all the nice cars at the tunnel and en route. That said, I like doing it that way.

I haven't priced up next year yet, but in 2009 on a Brittany the Fairies (sorry, kids joke) it was somewhere in the £250-300 region including a cabin.
As for camping/entry tickets, I used: http://www.tickets-2-u.com/ and back then it was £72 for entrance and the campsite pitch at Tetre Rouge was £109. Doesn't look like prices have changed all that much.
Have a feeling there will be a lot of Porsches there in 2014!
