Cayman Purchase

After several Boxsters, now looking to buy a Cayman. Budget max £18k. What are the pitfalls / faults / things to look out for ?

In answer to your question, no different to the Boxster really. If the tailgate rattles, adjusting the lock mechanism and/or the bump stops should cure it, otherwise as per the Boxster.

Chips n Cheese posts here and owns a Cayman - search out his profile as he has a diary of ownership with costs.

They're brilliant cars - just decided to keep my 987.1 for another year - already I've never had a car for longer. Took it out yesterday for a blat, and it was epic on the b-roads near me. Trip computer showed a scary 12.6mpg though after a 15min blast on my favourite road!

Yep, do.

I looked long and hard and investigated potential issues. Couldn't find a mark on the bodywork of this one and it has a stack of history, it's certainly not been run on a budget at any point in its life. Since having this I have replaced a Brake Light Switch (£9) and an Exhaust Gasket (£20), that's it. Spent some cash tidying it up around the edges a bit, new plates, wipers and replacing the exhaust with EuroGT tips for cosmetic reasons. Contemplating buying some 7mm and 15mm spacers at the moment if doesn't sell in next few weeks.

I heard the seals are worth a look as they sometime expire and drop a bit of oil, but not had that issue. Also IMS, but I think that is rarer than is made out on the internet. No one comes on a forum and says "My Cayman is running fine and always has been" hence, you only ever hear of the few horror stories. (touch wood)

Anyway, that's the end of hijack and sales pitch

Very nice and seems like a crazy amount of car for that money. Just need to find a home for a nine year old now!
