944 Cab rear seatbelts

There's mention on another PH forum that the 944 Cabrio has only lap belts in the rear and there isn't any fixing points for the over the shoulder belt.
Anyone able to confirm or dispute?

From what I remember we only had lap belts in the back of our 944. Not sure this helps?

Fairly sure you cant fit 3 point in a Cab, but I would check into the PCGB 944 forum to be sure.

Inertial reel lap belts, similar to those fitted in 1986 944 Turbos.

The seat belts seem like a bit of a pointless addition, the seats are useless, even for pretty small kids.

They are a little tight but my 5'7" 23 year old daughter has done several hour plus trips in the back with her 5'10" sister in the front

early 944, like mine, have lap belts, latter cars have 3 points, from my investigation you can not fit 3 point to an earlier car, but I can't see why not if you fabricate the moounts, so I take that to just mean that the top seat belt mount is not there from the factory. My car came without any rear belts, jap spec, never fitted, I bought lap belts, and they are still on the shelf, you can't actually sit in the seat facing forward, if we use the back seat it is, sit one side legs in the other foot well. In the hard top it would be nearly impossible to go throught the screen or anything from the back seat, so for the use I make of the rear seat I just leave it with no belts.

You can fit static three point belts to a series one 944 (the mounting point is there in the C pillar, from the first 924), but you cant fit inertia reel three point belts to a series one or a 1986 series two because they don't have the brackets fitted in the rear wheel arches.

None of this is relevant to a Cabriolet though, as it doesn't have a C pillar!

I have seen some inertia reels fitted to the C pillar in an early car, and playing with them, they seemed to work ok.

Dont know if they were specials or modified in some way.

Theyre not original belts mike, although they could hav ebeen original lap inertia belts modified for a three point fixing. A firm like QuickfitSBS would be able to re-web them for this.

Im not sure whether inertia lap belts were were an option on other models, but Ive only seem them on 86 Turbos and theyre quite rare.

I knew they weren't Porsche.

They were 3 point with the reel on the C pillar but the position of the mounting hole in the bracket looked odd to me,guessed it would bent under accident type load, but as I said seemed to work ok with a sharp MOT style tug.

I have seen one with a pair of 4 point harnesses in the back that were obviously fixed somewhere in the boot.
Looked a neat and safe solution for kiddy transport

It would be very sad if SBS went under, they didn't a brilliant job on my 911. The could fit 3 point reel belts to a 944, they fabricate a mounting point.
