Boxster help needed

Hi. I have just agreed to buy a Boxster S. Its a 1 owner 2003 with only 36k miles. There are naturally a couple of niggles I need to fix. The only 2 that concern me are:

1. The passenger window doesn't drop when the door handle is pulled. You can sort of hear the 'chug' sound but the glass doesn't drop. Is this a sensor or a motor issue? Costly to fix?

2. The speakers need replacing? There are some on the dash. Is this an issue?

The car is very nice so I am going ahead regardless.

1. Sounds like a switch issue to me. The motor and regulator wont affect this. Pretty cheap fix

Does the window go down and up with the window button? If no then I suspect the window regulator. The mechanism that moves the window up and down.

If yes then the door handle switch is suspect. If the handle is pulled but not far enough to unlatch the door the window should drop and remain down as long as the handle remains pulled.

If the handle is released without opening the door the window should raise as the switch in the handle is now closed and the latch switch is not open.

If the door handle is pulled enough to open the door latch then the window should stay down. To raise both the door handle switch must be closed (which it is as soon as the handle of the open door is released) but also the door latch switch which won't be closed until the door is closed.

In either case the repair is not bad. Some owners who are more adept at that type of auto repair manage to do the work themselves. I'm all thumbs and crowbars when it comes to interior repair so I take my car to the dealer for these types of problems.

Front speaker replacement is slightly fiddly but well worth doing. As mentioned, get the fitting kit from JMG and the Alpines via eBay. If doing this still leaves the audio lacking you might want to fit a rear speaker enclosure (not Bose). There is a kit to do this available via eBay too but it comes from the US.
