Is mileage an issue on a 996 Turbo??

I'm going to buy a 996 turbo. The one I'm intending on buying has 82,000 miles but has been looked after by extremely well respected specialists. It seemingly hasn't wanted for anything and is totally standard.

Is the mileage ok or am I better pursuing something with less miles?

Realistically it may only become a problem when you want to sell.
Its probably slightly higher than idea for cars of that age and if you plan on using it more than just a weekend warrior then you will hit 100k quite quickly. This I fell will be a bit of a psychological barrier in a couple of years.
If your use is only 3k a year and you move it on in 3 years then less of an issue.

All of the above is completely irrelevant as to how good a car it is. The cars will be very able to cope at 82k as long as they are looked after. Sounds like its had good work done so get out and enjoy it.

I think it should be ok. The cars a good spec and it's a manual 2003 car.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't about to commit a cardinal sin when it comes to Turbos.

The crazy thing is, I would consider 82,000 mls on a c2/C4 reasonable.

I think the motto is similar to buying a house, then its location, location, location, here it is condition, condition, condition. It's a huge amount of car for very little money, if well maintained it has a lot of life left. There are psychological barriers on mileage, 100k is a big one, but its far from the most important. Have it checked out, if its good buy and enjoy

If you haven't already it may be worth a call to Ken at 9e to get his view on the car and to confirm if there is anything coming up on the short or medium term to-do list.

Mileage itself shouldn't be a problem at all for the 996TT which is generally very robust.

Just sold mine for less with 59k miles on.
New Turbo's
New Rad/Cond, lower coffin arms, new top mounts on front suspension, heat shields, brake discs & tyres.

Miles isn't a problem for the car its more of a problem when selling
My GT2 had 79k miles on it when I sold but it drove far better than any 21k garage queen

Buy it. I would rather had a car that has 6 - 8000 miles per year than some thing with 4000 miles that sits in a garage.

My 03 Turbo at 110K miles has needed none of the above.

I agree, maybe looked after...BUT i think the car would have been driven bloody hard, even tracked etc for these rebuilds. I would get it checked prof, you cant go wrong. Cost about £300 for a decent check, but its £300 well spent if its a poor state of a car, that cant be seen be you.

Agree with your last comment always worth having a PPI done.

However, regarding turbo rebuilds, it really has very little to with how the car is driven - lack of usage causes issues just as much as hard driving. Really comes down to corrosion so whether the owner(s) take them out in all weathers. See a lot where the turbos are fine as such themselves, unless you have to touch them - as soon as you try to remove any of the fixings the housing crack for example.

There is a good case for replacing actuators before they get too bad that any attempt to replace would result in further damage. Unfortunately spending money on preventative measures is not always a priority which is understandable.

Worth every penny at that price. The turbo engine is very robust and will be good for a lot more miles. I'm sure there's a guy on Rennlist with over 300,000 miles on his.
