So when was the last time you went out to.... nowhere!
Having spent all of yesterday trimming hedges and tidying stuff. I decided that today would be an early start and I'd take the 993 out for a morning drive.
I love it... I love it... I love it!!!
It also gave me an opportunity to try out the routes thing on my new satnav..
All I can say is that the hours spent mapping routes using recommendations here and on other sites , coupled with some serious google mapping paid of this morning...
A 114mile loop of somewhere sort of south was completed this morning and I was back in time for the kids breakfast. Empty roads are hard to find these days and you really do have to get up early to make the most of the wonderful roads we have. But MY GOD its worth it...!!
The sound of the flat six as it roars to the red line is ridiculously addictive... The villages along the way providing a bit of respite and the opportunity to adjust yourself, and i noticed today how perfectly quiet the car is when you're trundling along at 30, before passing between another set of NSL signs and turning the volume up again...and again... and again... as you change up through the silky smooth box.
I am in complete awe of my car.. 100K miles and everything is still tight as a drum, the steering is almost telepathic, the brakes just keep on hauling you up, the engine goads you into giving it more and then thanks you for it...
have I mentioned i love it. ??
funny thing happened though... well I thought it was funny..
Filled her up just before I got home ready for the next one! While I was there I was talking with a local guy with his 348GTB -
"Got to make the most of these sunny weekends and get the cars out" - he remarked..
"definitely" - I replied.
"how far have you been this morning?" I asked...
"oh I've done 4 laps of the ring road" he says.
"oh... Ive just done the best part of 120miles"
Got to love the ferrari owners idea of a morning blast!!

I've been out just to find some long hills, the flat 6 sounds fantastic under load.
Must say that the Porsche Satnav is absolutely fantastic, managed to navigate me round the M3 mess this afternoon, it took me off the A34 JUST before the traffic stopped and got me back on with no problems. It even recalculated the route when we got to the M3 and could make out that the traffic was still snarled up.
Thoroughly impressed and it chose some nicer driving roads to avoid the traffic!
I will also admit to going into the garage after a drive to smell it, sad I know but the mix of hot brakes, exhaust and engine is great.

I've missed out this weekend due to a heavy drinking day on Sat with clients and feeling pretty rough today, I did reverse the car out and install a rear seatbelt for the wife to accompany me and my 3 year old on a drive soon.
A combinations of the F1 and then Wimbledon with a beer to celebrate Murrays win saw an end to any idea of driving this weekend.
Sounds like I have really missed out!

I'm trying to take my turbo out more often, just for the sake of it. That's what I planned when I bought it in 2009, but other commitments have tended to get in the way, so I've not used it nearly enough.
At times, I've been using the car as little as once a month. But, over the past 12 months or so, following a trip to the Ring last year (funnily enough), my youngest daughter (age 8) has fallen in love with the car and insists on going out for a weekly drive - a good excuse for going out for a random drive in the Kent countryside.
And there was that recent trip, in May, to the Ring (& overnight stay nearby) just for a 7 minute ride in the Ring Taxi ... I couldn't resist a couple of days of blastage in the turbo on some autobahns and German countryside and was not disappointed! With the PS2s now on the car instead of the mouldy Pirellis, the next trip will be even better!

I did similar. 170 miles or so. Explored Hertfordshire. Pheasant committed suicide on the nose of the Porsche literally as I put my foot down and hit Sport +. I swear that button deploys Pheasants into the road as they always appear. Maybe the siren call of a wailing flat 6 works for the male birds as well. Fortunately it didn’t damage the front of the car.
Saw a nice Ferrari Dino while I was out as well but the roads were really quiet. Even between Baldock and Buntingford late morning which is usually full of dawdlers, it was pretty clear.
The roads are yours if you’re up at 6am, particularly on a Sunday.

Care to share? Hertfordshire isn't that far from North London where I am and I'm always on the lookout for good riving roads. Done a few late evening runs recently. Windows down, harness nice and tight goose bumps ready
At one point I thought it was raining there were that many deed flies on the window!

Hi there,
Well I am enjoying the weather in the Boxster. On holiday. Started on Wednesday. Travelled to Keswick in the rain. Since then the roof has never been up. Journeyed onto Glasgow. Where I saw 40 Ferraris at the new museum doing runs for charity. Today up by Loch Lomond to Fort William. Boxster running like a dream. Giving it a blast when I can. Traffic busy. Rest of holiday is Alness, Perth, Alnwick, Bernard Castle. All roads being A and B roads. Keeping off the M ways.
Hopefully keep the roof down for the next week too!

Glad your still enjoying that great car up in your fine land !!... Myself & Mike do the geo setting at his brilliant Sports & Classic workshop in Cheshire, he is a true buff when it comes to these toys & really knows his onions!... My car is aggressively set up but that's the way I like it, just have to keep moving the tyres round to try any kind of even wear.

Nothing that you probably don't know about but A507 Baldock to Buntingford is always enjoyable. I usually route out from East London via Theydon Bois as the B172 to Theydon Bois joined from the roundabout where the A121 and A104 meet. B172 leading into Theydon Bois is only 1.5 miles (turn round by the tennis club and before the speed camera for the return trip) but if you pick your time, you can enjoy it at a decent speed but you have to watch out for cyclists and runners if you time it too late. Streetview will give you a sense of the road but the camera elevation on the Streetview car takes away the contour of the road so it's one to be experienced.
I tend to head towards Thaxted on the B184 in Saffron Walden or cut across earlier to Bishop's Stortford to find the B507. I've taken a few B roads in the CR which I've regretted around there as they are positively agricultural.
