Hello all,

Although I am on the main site most days , I have not posted for a long while.

Does anyone know if a new boxster spyder will be produced?

I should be in a position to order one as a garage queen keeper using it when the sun has his hat on.

eventually passing it on to my son.

I very much doubt it, but if they do it will be 5 years away or just in name.

Personally I don't think they will build one quite as extreme.

But nothing to stop them calling one a Spyder like they did with the RS60 and just doing ltd colour runs.

Who knows at the end of the day.

Just get a low miles one now and enjoy it, they drive far better than any of the new models anyway :-)
And the bespoke body work makes it a future classic.

You have offended my family and you have offended the Shaolin temple...

The RS60 actually has more power than standard and the unique sport exhaust sounds the best out of the entire 987 generation. As PHers also like to say "there was nothing it" when I had several runs with a Spyder, which was surprising (or not).

Still the Spyder looks nice, and I reckon there will be a 981 in similar vein.

I'll go use my curling tongs now (which are stored in the boot) and give the Spyder owners a chance to comment...

No more than 2000 built of 987 Spyder. I just don't know whether that is good or bad business for Porsche compared to what was spent to develop and market it.

I wonder whether it met their targets or not?

If another spyder of the same mould (not just an options special) did come along, I think it would be quite a long time before we saw it. 5yrs min.

Not wanting to appear rude, but why ? There are sooooo many special cars out there at the kind of price point that this would be that if it were a genuine legacy car for your son, you could do soooo much better in my opinion .... and this isnt a 'for the cost of x new you could have y used' type argument, juts a genuine observation.

hi dibblecorse,

the boxster spyder seems to tick so many of the boxes for that 3rd car that i can keep and never sell,
fast / low maintainence / special to drive / not too expensive to run / great looking.
i didnt get to have a porsche before the kids arrived so i still have that itch.

plus the wife has given green light , she has always wanted a porsche.i need one which she will be ok to drive.

Having done the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder, albeit late in the 987's life, Porsche will have been able to judge the relative success of these models and this will determine if and when they do something similar with the 981s.

My guess is they will, together with a 991 Speedster, as they have made clear their intent to offer a broad range of model variants.

A-ha, a bigger picture, I'd then wait until they release it or based on the miniscule numbers of the current Spyder get one of those ....

They are just perfect driving machines.

Why not Buy a Spyder now. If, as you say, it ticks all the boxes what is stopping you buying one. If you intend to keep it as a future classic why not start now?

bit early to buy now with work etc.finances are pretty much in place now , but will really come together next year with a property sale..

i have a clio 200 cup for work now.i will probably hold onto this for my daily.

the new spyder , should it appear , will arrive just right for me.

all these years behind a desk , you need to have a bit of joy , otherwise what's it all for...

you will not see a bespoke body new shape Spyder within 3 years imo.
And I still think if ever.

that's why it's best to buy a low miles example now and start enjoying it.
