Cayman rough when cold

So two months or so into ownership of my 2010 Cayman S and loving it so far.

It's had an aircon service due to it being a bit wiffy - not under warranty but OPC Swindon (where I bought the car from) negotiated a reduced priced with my local OPC (Bolton) and also paid half so all good there.

A couple of things though - recently I've noticed a creaking noise from the steering when manoeuvring at very low speeds. From what I've read it's not an uncommon thing so hopefully will be addressed under warranty.

The other thing is - is it usual for it to drive a bit roughly for a short while after starting from cold? Not exactly juddering but certainly not as smooth as it is once it's warmed up for bit. I'ts a PDK box.

Mine's a gen.1 S and it can be a little lumpy when cold - only for a minute or two, and I only ever really notice a tiny bit of hesitation or flat-spotting as I accelerate up the road from cold. Even that may be in my imagination though. I wouldn't worry too much if it seems to disappear quickly when warm.

hi there, my 2010 Cayman also is a bit creaky when manoeuvring at low speed when the car has had a run, not when it is cold, is this going to be a problem, or just what the car does?

Could be a cracked coil pack - my Boxster was similar and Revolution spotted a cracked coil pack during the last service.

I had the same problem on my 2011 Cayman. I traced it to the front strut top bearing.

If you put your hands above each front wheel (in turn) and grab the front spring and twist you will find one will jump slightly and the other wont. If you get the other half or a friend to rotate the steering wheel slightly at the same time you will hear it clearly from one side or the other.

All that is needed is the top mount to be disassembled and re-greased. My OPC did it for me under warranty when I had the last service

I had a PDK 2012 Cayman and the box when cold was for want of a better word lazy, it would take a second or two to find first and then go, after a couple minutes.
