How can I make my Cayman S and my iPhone work together??

Hi there

This is driving me nuts

My 2007 Cayman S came with the built in phone (Option 666 I think?)

There is a sim card slot, but as my provider (Vodafone) won't give twin sims, I have put a Pay-As-You-Go sim card in the slot, and then every time I get in the Porsche I have to switch my iphone to Call Forwarding so that my calls are then directed to the PAYG sim in the built in phone. Less than satisfactory, but it works in a heath robinson kind of way

Is there a better way of doing this, as I am fed up with having to go into the settings of my iphone every time I get in or out of the car?

P.S. The Porsche handbook states: "The use of twin SIM cards, e.g. in mobile and PCM phones (both cards simultaneously activated) may result in impairment of the telephone functions." ...so what did they expect us to do?????

An option is to put a mobridge unit in, a little pricey but works brilliantly on my PCM2.1.

I have a similar setup - two SIM cards on the same number - but on a contract not Pay-as-you-go.

I switch off my phone when I get in the car, enter the SIM pin through the PCM screen and away I go. Can make and receive calls without a problem

How did you get two SIM cards with the same number? Vodafone won't let me do this so I have to have a separate PAYG, with a different number, permanently inserted in the Porsche which I then have to forward to from my iPhone every time I get in

I live in the Netherlands but have this setup with both KPN and Voda here.

I had an identical setup when I lived in the UK in a Merc I owned at the time. Just requested a dual SIM from Voda, switching one phone off to ensure only one SIM was registered with the network at once.

You could set call forwarding to send the calls to the PCM sim when your proper handset is OFF. Then when you get in the car all you have to do is activate PLANE mode or switch it off. If your handset is jailbroken there is an app you can download which does it with a single press of the home button. Might be easier and quicker with the infrastructure you currently have rather than spend out.

Another solution is Tooki Bluetooth. Not cheap but works very well.

I have a Dension unit and it does the jop for me - as well as all kinds of other stuff such as playing music from a USB stick or your iPod if you want. Some others around, but this one works well - sit in the car, turn the ignition and the PCM sees the phone straight away.

Yep different system.

PCM2.1 in the early Caymans, Boxster and 997's didn't have Bluetooth.

You have PCM 3. Only the 2nd generation of 997s have the same system - bluetooth, iPhone integration and so on require a third party device such as those mentioned in the thread to talk to earlier unit.

Or try a Viseeo system....Works well with an iPhone 3S using an active charging Brodit mount and Brodit Porsche centre console side clip (means it's charging & can easily use other Apple Satnav Apps with sound/directions played thru BT into PCM.

Had Mobridge installed but several issues, meant it was decided to remove and replace with a Viseeo.

Impressed, full PCM functionality, phone books sync and BT connection for calls and music.

Needed a coding change, by Dealer to enable feature but other than that the Installer was impressed with device, cost & functionality.

I guess the OP needs to decide if they want an integrated PCM solution or a standalone solution.

I understand the options are linked also to whether you have the BOSE upgrade (MOST system).

Cost compariosn - £100-£125 for a 'Parrot' supplied/installed to ~£400-500 for a Dension/Mobridge/Viseeo solution.

So, there are pros & cons of each - ease of use, functions,charging cables, cost ?

Having had a Mobridge and now a Viseeo instaled, I can compare with the Parrot MKi's & Ck's installed in our works vehicles

I've got the ViseeO MOSTO system on mine too. Works flawlessly with my old iPhone 4. You can set it up to stream music via Bluetooth, but I have a separate iPod interface, and an iPod permanently connected.

Easy really have a parrot asteroid smart fitted like I did ,it's totally brilliant and you get nav,browser,iPod streaming,apps etc ,I paid £550 fitted and it is way way better than anything Porsche can factory fit...

At the time we looked, no Parrot system 'worked' with the Porsche BOSE fibre optic ICE system - Has this changed ?

footnote : Ah, just looked - this is the system where you rip out the PCM etc and replace the head Unit ?

Does it still look 'standard' ?

Undoubtably fit a Tooki Bluetooth kit. This will allow you to use your iphone via bluetooth integrated to PCM just as if you had put your sim card in. They can also supply an ipod connector but will remove the 6CD changer connections if you have one as the Tooki system fools PCM into thinking that the ipod is a CD changer.

I don't really want to fit a third party kit, just seems wrong when the car is factory fitted with a phone

I can't see any other way than to carry on the way I am with the two different sims and just have to switch my iPhone to call forwarding when I get in.

Not ideal, but at least doesn't spoil the interior of the car with an extra bolt on device

ViseeO, Mobridge and Dension devices are hidden away, and there is nothing visibly different about the interior. When you press the TEL button, you get exactly the same display as you do with the factory module. They are totally integrated, and the steering wheel buttons work the same, the OBC displays incoming number, etc, etc.
