I've had a 997 GTS for 3 months now which is used regularly. On 2 occasions I have noticed what I'd consider to be excessive smoke on starting. I'd appreciate any views on this.... Problem, they all do that etc...!!

Its an "they all do that Sir" Mine does it on occasion but negligible oil use. Enjoy, ace cars.

indeed - they all do it occasionally.

if it does it regularly then maybe start to worry

I find a few seconds idle before shutting off the engine normally prevents it.

A friend and I saw a brand new GTS being picked up 2 years ago and it did this - commented to the salesman, his reply was 'they all seem to do that momentarily'...

Seems a little strange but I suppose as long as it clears, there's nothing to worry about...
